My father in law is slowly finishing the rebuild of his 6.5

He will replace his 506 with a 141. He is quite happy about that, as the 141 are known to be better than the 506 (no oil squirt).

That being said, he wants to do the cooling mod on the heads.

Usually, to do so, we have to open the rear ports on each heads and then route a hose to the T-stats housing or to the waterpump.

He says routing to the T-stats housing is not worth the pain as it will connect to hot water circuit.

Then, he says he will interconnect both heads so that will improve flow between the 2 heads.

I pretend that will not improve anything.

What's your opinion guys ?

The way I read it-the two plates have fittings and hoses attached to them which attach to a "T" fitting. A hose goes from the "T" to another "T" in the larger heater hose . The one with the quick disconnect fitting. Matuva - I sent you a PM

vail, I saw this setup before. Thanks for the link however.
I wasn't able to explain that to my father in law, as myself I have not enough knowledge in cooling circuit of a 6.5

Basically, I believe cold liquid is coming from the lower hose, inside waterpump then in the block and through the heads to the upper hose, or something like that ?...

coolant flow is from lower rad hose trough waterpump, trough both sides of block to the rear and up trough rear of both heads, than forward trough the heads to crossover and back to rad trough top rad hose.
Connecting rear ports of heads wont do a thing.

So what's the best way to flush your coolant system?

Where do you introduce the water and where should you let it exit?

Please.

I dont think there is a best or easy way to flush the system short of taking the engine apart.
There's so many nooks and cranny's where dirt can settle out and stays put,no matter what.

I never change coolant unless i pop a hose or something else sprouts a leak.

but, mebby some one else has a good workable plan.

i dont know what the best is beside ripping the eninge apart but i cut the heater hose and installed a plastic tee for a garden hose. then i let it come out the overflow tank. worked great so far

Which heater hose, the one to the rad or the one to the crossover with the quick connect attached?
