Noticed a Drip Under my Truck Today, so I Rolled Under to take a Look.

There is Coolant Dripping from the Front Corner of the Pass. Side Head. It really only does it when the Truck is Off. I don't Notice the Coolant Level being Lower than it was, there's no Smell of Coolant in the Exhaust, is not a Constant Stream, just a Drip.

Any Ideas? It wouldn't be a Head Gasket, right?

Leak from on top and coming around the head? Lots of stuff like EGR cooler etc. to leak topside.

That is a nasty looking battery cable ground...

Damn! I see what that salt air does out there James... Wow!
I would be looking at the stuff above for the leak too.

Yea, the Salt does Wonders on more things than the Roads around here...and having the Water Across the Street doesn't Help much either.

I just did the EGR Delete a few Weeks ago, and obviously had some Coolant Spill during the R&R. But I've Checked everything (at least I THINK I did) that I Wrenched on or Near and it all Looks Good.

There is 1 Small Tube that has my Attention though. It's right beside the Alternator and goes In the Top of the Engine and used to go In the Front of the EGR Cooler. It looks Damp around the Neck of it where it goes in the Engine, not not really Wet.

I totally Hosed the Area to Wash everything Off before, went for a Ride, came back, it was all Bone Dry. Went out about an Hour Later, and it Looked like it does in the Pics above. So it def. only Leaks when the Truck is Off.

Follow the leak upwards. You can see in teh first pic where teh leak is starting at teh very top of the pic. I would look at the heater hose connection, t-stat housing gaskets, and look closely at teh metal tube that feeds coolant to the turbo. With all that rust on it, there is a good chance that metal tube has rotted through.

No one else mentioned this- When it's hot and the engine is running, is the upper rad hose rock hard? Are there any signs of black scum in the coolant bottle? Hopefully not!

The Top of the Engine is mostly Dry. I'm gonna have Pull the Alternator to Follow the Leak up Higher on the Engine.

It's gotta be something near the T-Stat Housing I'm Thinking.

The Coolant is still a nice Clear / Orange Color.

I'm Thinking it's the Metal Tube that Feeds the Front of the EGR Cooler. I had to Pull it Out when I did the EGR Delete, so I'm Thinking the O-Ring on it might have gotten Torn. But like I said, it doesn't Leak when the Engine is Running, only when it's Off.

What did you install for the EGR delete? Was it the blocking plate and the finger stick? Or a complete EGR blocking kit?

Complete EGR Delete from Sinister Diesel (gets rid of the Cooler) and a New Boost Tube from Creatures of the Night.

The heater tube is on top of teh t-stat housing and should be visible from the top. The turbo coolant feed hose goes right up underneath the alternator. It starts out behind the fan pulley, goes up under the alternator, back along the intake to a elbow behind the CP3 and feeds the turbo.

Give the installation another "once over" and see what you can find. If you were fine before the install of the kit, and have issues after the install it has to be related to that. I'd say the engine and head gaskets are fine. Just a once over and maybe something related to the install needs a little tightening, or maybe an o-ring or something. Did you do the install yourself, or have someone do it for you?

When you are parked, are you flat or on a hill? Maybe residual coolant just running out of the valleys? Maybe try and use a wetvac to see if you can get any remaining liquid out? Just thinking outloud.

Do we have anyone here that can get Duramax Parts?

I wanna know how much this little Coolant Tube is gonna Cost to Replace.

I'll get Pics when the new O-Rings get here, but it's gotta be the little Tube that is to the Right of the Alternator and runs into the Front of the EGR Cooler.

I was Washing the area down with Water and as soon as I would Stop the Water, Coolant would start Leaking Slow.

It's the Area that Stands Out the most to me right now. So I'll Start there and see how it goes.

Ok, got the O-Rings Today, got the New one Installed on the Tube and that Leak is gone. Bone Dry around the Tube and Front Pass Side Corner of the Engine.

Now...I got another Leak.

This one is on the Rear of the Engine, Pass Side still.

It looks like it Leaking where the Trans & Engine Butt Up against each other, kinda in the Area of the Starter. It looks like it's coming from above the Rear of the Oil Pan. From the Starter and Higher, as good as I can See, everything is Dry.

Any Ideas on this one?

The only thing towards the "Back" that I Messed with during the EGR Delete was one of the Coolant Lines that comes out of the Firewall. But when you Pop the Hood, it's right there, and it Dry and has no Signs of Leaking, ever.

Theres a plate that bolts onto the adapter just above the starter that is known to leak on LBZ's. Also make sure the coolant hose going to the turbo is good as a leak there will run out the block on that side.

Cool.

It's gonna Rain here for the next few Days, but hopefully I can get to it ASAP.

I was also wondering if this was just Residual Coolant from the Original Leak, that's Trapped somewhere, but as soon as I would Wipe it, it was back, so it's def. "Running" from somewhere.

K, looks like the Coolant at the Rear of the Engine was just Residual.

Drove it Today, Parked it, Rolled Under and it was Dry.

But I'm still gonna keep an Eye on it.

So...for now, the Coolant Leak is Fixed.
