Not that I use Internet Explorer, but I just noticed tonight that my laptop won't connect to the internet with IE8, but works just fine with Firefox. I'm pretty computer literate and I don't see where there are any settings that is preventing IE8 from working.

Any ideas? Here's a real twist to it. Absolutely no bookmarks, direct typing addresses, or using the search bar in the upper right will work, get the "can't display page" EXCEPT I can connect to my work webmail account. :skep:

I've got an issue with the laptop not recognizing my phone's memory card via USB cable that I can't figure out either so I'm starting to wonder if it's not time to just reinstall XP and start over. Desktop has no problem seeing the memory card.

Work Email may depend on this. Write the numbers down before unchecking the box. After all you are just curious and don't really want to use the insecure, buggy, hack me now / drive by download browser do you?

Tools, Internet options, Connections "tab", Lan settings, Proxy server.

What does the device manager say when the USB device is plugged in?

No, I have no plans to use IE8 other than accessing work email. Just one of those things that when something doesn't work right I have to know why. I unchecked the proxy server box like you said and bingo it's working. So now inquiring minds want to know, why and what happened? Something in the past changed without me knowing about it.

the phone thing is a driver issue I'm pretty sure, but I can't seem to fix it. My previous phone didn't have a problem being recognized. Device manager recognized the phone, everything says it's working properly, the little disconnect icon in the lower right corner on the main screen identifies it as a USB mass storage device like it's suppose to be, but when I open Explorer and look under My Computer it's not there. I uninstalled the driver a couple times and reinstalled and it says "there was a problem and driver didn't load correctly". Of course it doesn't tell me what problem. Driver updates don't fix it either.

Thanks for the help
