Hello,
Bought a 6.5 about a year ago, everything was great. Engine started stalling randomly. Took it to my mechanic. Here is a list of diagnostics.
- Replaced Pdm
- Replaced fuel injection pump
- Replaced starter and battery
- Replaced engine

Now she won't start and scanner doesn't work.
This topic may be covered , however I couldn't find anything.
Thanks in advance.

Step 1. Never use that shop again.
Step 2. Save all receipts for getting some money refunded. That is way crazy to replace an engine and can't even get signal to a scanner. The term "hack parts changer" comes to mind.

If the scanner is not working you are not getting power and or ground through the system. It is expected that if a scanner cannot pick anything up it will not start. Does it crank over?

Go through all electrical connections starting from the batteries. Remove every connection, clean and reattach one at a time. Grounds first. Special attention to the grounds at the back of the engine by the transmission dipstick. Ensure with a meter there is proper ground at battery, engine, body, and harnesses.

Now check for power to and through the ignition switch. This is a common failure point. Verify through the fuses, another common failure point. Next is there voltage and ground at the obdII port, PCM, and PMD.

I'm probably jumping the gun with checking all this, but holy smokes don't spend any more money until some actual diagnostic work is done.

Scanner not working is not the end of the world.
It can be fuse problem.

Did the mechanic replace the engine? I hope not.
If they do, they should warranty it.

Need more vehicle details to help with better responses ;)

Within the realm of possibilities is that the ECM's plug fell out which could explain both the non-start and non-scan.

X2 on sending the truck back to the shop for warrantee work if it is not something obvious like a blown fuse or relay. Let the shop find the issue and then demonstrate how it was not part of all the other work that was performed in comparison to the original work's expected outcome.

In reality, seems like there is concern with the original shop's work, so prepare to pay for somebody else to do the diagnostics per Will's comments.

While we are on the topic of the list of work done, check that the starter bracket was replaced as it's absence can cause unrepairable block damage if the starter torques and snaps the bolt out of the hole (read: another motor replacement). Easy to correct now (if appropriate).
