Is it possible to use 4" or 6" electrical conduit as exhaust pipe? It seems like it'd be cheaper than buying a kit and being around electricians, I might be able to make/get fittings easier. Just a thought.

I don't see why not. might have to buy a down pipe though to get the flange to the turbo. Have to be a commercial electrician to have that big of a bender

my workplace designs and builds commercial buildings - schools and churches, so one of our main subs has their office about 5 miles from our office.

I like that Idea. When my exhaust needed a quick fix I used HVAC tubing for about a month. It held up for the situation.

Most of the places I go to now use pre-manufactured bends of EMT (for electrical not exhaust). They have your 45* for saddle bends and your 90* for corners and coming out of the main and sub panels. With the usual EMT coupling with set screws. Obviously you can pick up a 1/2" or 3/4" EMT bender from your local store, but large size tubing like that usually requires fixed and powerful machinery to make bends.

If your company doesn't have an on site bending machine that can do this for you, check out your local IBEW union. Most of the Unions do there own bending, specifically because it looks far more professional than slapping pre made pieces up there.

But I like the idea of using EMT for exhaust. I think it would do you well

I used it on a 77 Ramcharger I had a million years ago. It held up until it found it's way to the scrapyard 3 years later.

They only thing I would throw out is the gasses being given off because most of the bigger pipe is galvanized and that crap will kill you with zinc poisoning. I would be really carefull if it were me.

I don't think the exh. temps will be high enough to give off any zinc. That is usually from welding temps.

You want to burn off the coating first. No need to put that on everyone behind you. I'd say it's only really worth it if you have some kicking around, or are willing to steal it from your boss.

And remember, the boss had to pay money for that too. So think about that when you are ripping him off.

I try my best to not steal from anyone, so I'd pay for it if it wasn't given to me as scrap.

I worked with some guys that would just help themselves to anything that they wanted. I always did work on the side, and if I used their stuff on the side I'd use some of my stuff there. Worked out probably dollar for dollar. But some of those clowns felt like they were entitled.

PS I wasn't accusing you of stealing. Just expressing how I feel from the other side of the equation.

Sorry - same thing happens when I hear of truck drivers calling 4-wheelers stupid drivers...I like to point out that not all of us are bad drivers - just alot (especially in the city/suburb areas).

If it was free i would use it or if work would pay for it witch ever, And it won't get near hot enough to burn off the galvanize coat. I'm pretty much immune to that shit now just gotta drink lot's of milk after welding it all day to keep the zink chill's away at night:)
