It won't shut down. when you try it acts like it's shutting off but then reboots and I have to hit the button a few times to kill it. It started after I installed a Brother printer/scanner/fax. I am thinking somehow something got glitched during the software install that is making it continually reboot. Where should I look ?

What OS are you running? If you did install something like the printer software...uninstall it and see what happens. You mave have to restore to a earlier date for it to behave better. If it is Vista, well I would think about going to Win7. It is a much better OS.

I'm sorry... are you implying that Vista is an OS? That'd be pushing Freedom of Speech just a little bit too far....):h

Download Quicksys RegDefrag (freeware), install it, then run it (it should create a backup of your registry and also a restore point). It fixed the same problem I had with our old Dell Dimension 2400/WinXP after installing a Brother USB laser fax machine many moons ago.

To manually backup your registry, try this link:

http://support.microsoft.com/kb/322756

It also gives instructions on how to restore your registry.

Good luck,
Franko

Wow, Win 2000 is a stable OS, Out dated but stable. Let us know what happens.

btw Franko....your right Vista is a OS in name only...I call it a POS

I'm probably going to just scrap the whole PC. There is a PC show this weekend and I'm going to get some parts and build a new one. This one is outdated. It's a POS Compaq I threw together with parts I had laying around. I'd like to move up to XP Pro but I have a real problem with Microsoft and there little"can only install it one one machine" BS.

Why don't you get a new machine with Win 7. Prices are good right now and if you can build one withyour specs that woudl be pretty cool. I can buy cheaper from dell vs buying the parts and doing my own build. I always do top end machines.

well the problem was coincidental which always sucks. It was actually the Power supply on it's way out. It took till my last post till now to puke and now with new one installed , the machine shuts down fine.
