If you've already followed the anti-virus scan / malware scan and removal, then try CCleaner! I've used this on all our computers and many others with really great results. It removes temporary files and can clean up your registry. This program is really great.

It says it is freeware , but then it wants payment , what gives:confused:

They are just asking for donations...the program is free - I've never paid for it. It's very good too. You might want to pay attention to your settings, it won't hurt you at stock settings, but it can be aggressive too.
The registry checker is a great little tool. It gets all those orphans out of there.

F*** CCLeaner! My cousins swears by it and the one time we're both about half tuned up and looking up something on my PC he installs that damned thing. A week later I'm nuking my machine and reinstalling Windows.

Just be REALLY CAREFUL with what you have it clean. The whole week before I nuked, I had a blank Recent Programs & Recent Documents menu. I went back and unselected those cleaning options, even uninstalled ccleaner, still nothing Recent on the Start Menu.

Things I run:
Symantec AntiVirus, Corporate version 10.1.5.5000
Spybot - Search & Destroy 1.6.0.30

The AV runs all the time in the background, Complete System Scan on Sunday nights. Spybot is also ran once a week. Once a month or so I will run Disk Cleanup, also Disk Defragmenter.

Hmmm... I've used CCleaner for years and never had a single issue with it. Are you sure it's the same one? There are a few others out there... some have the same name.

The one you want is published by Piriform software

I am absolutely sure it was CCleaner, that program can die in a ****ing fire before it gets near my PC again...did you know it used to stand for Crap Cleaner?

I've also been using ccleaner for the last 2 years and no problems yet. It will probably get me tomorrow for saying that. :smile5:

I did say he uses it without ill effect, his machine, his work laptop, his parents. I dunno wtf he told it to do when he installed it on my PC but I wanted to punch him for it.

I didn't say "Don't Use It." I shared my one negative experience with it.

I'm not at all saying this was your fault, but with any free program, it comes with no warranty and you MUST know what you're doing!

I have had nothing but great experiences with it on twenty-some computers.

Yep, I agree. Thanks for sharing, Devin - we all benefit from hearing about every experience (without having to experience it for ourselves :D) ... everyone here is trying to help everyone else.

I down loaded it and it found problems but they want you to pay for the fix. Not free in my book

My guess is you didn't download the program you thought you were getting.
I've seen this many times, even warned about it here on these forums before...there is a LOT of misdirection going on when visiting download pages....a person has to look very close that they click on the right link.
It should be outlawed.

You would be correct, I downloaded the wrong one

A lot of these programs get money for offering the Yahoo, Ask.com, or other toolbars during installation too, you just have to watch what you're clicking
