Damn thing lost system config. Saturday night right when I was getting out of DTR. Wouldn't power up Sun AM. Thought I had a backup but when I tried to use it Mon night and got the IP address all loaded up I found that since it's a Windows 98, it's just not gonna happen. Everything online is considered an "illegal operation". Can't even download any IE version or a driver for my monitor. Brought the old one to a guy at work to see if he can figure it out (best hacker in the EE group). I don't have $ for a new unit but I'm gonna be looking for a tower to replace the old one for now. I've heard you can just buy the CPU somewhere for a couple of hundred. Anybody else know about that? At least I've got this one at work for days but DAMN, I feel lost w/o a computer at home!

have you considered wiping out the OS out and doing a clean install.....If it is still win 98 it could be a pain as you have to load most of the drivers and other crap that goes along but it might be worth the pain if the dollars are not there for a new system

That's one thing I'm considering Tim. It's a small 128 Mb unit though so might not be worth it.

I have an extra Dell tower and monitor, actually the whole computer keyboard and mouse speakers, everything if you are interested. i used it through college and we now use my wife's computer. I am in New Mexico and have no idea how expensive shipping will be or if you even want to deal with the hastle. Not looking for much out of it its an extra but works well. let me know

Give me the number off of it, I will look at it online and see how much guts it has.

Its a Dell Dimension 4600. Really it is a good computer flat screen monitor It did everything i needed and more.

I will be going hunting tomorrow for a week. FYI. just in case you need one ASAP and i am not to be found. Hopefully i will be back with a monster buck.

Update

Still in the Hacker's cube. Says it's a nasty virus but he thinks he can clean it up and save everything. We'll see... Thank you for the offer boomz55. I'm hoping to avoid doing that.

No problem. Just thought i would throw it out on the table. It is doing me no good now as i have another PC and a laptop for my EFI.
Good luck with the repair.

Update!

The original had a failed hard drive and while it was at it, it took out the mother board...
Put a new 500gb drive in but no go. That's how we found out the board issue. Said to hell with it and picked up a new tower with 4gb RAM and 750gb memory for $400 at BBuy. Windows 7. Just fired it up a couple of hours ago. So far so good. Still figuring it out.
Thanks for all the moral support guys!

Thats the way to go anyways ):h.

I'd wouldn't be able to use a slow computer or anything below windows vista anymore lol... I love my Windows 7!
