ran a full warm engine compression test on the blazer.

I'm not to pleased by the numbers. :mad2:

Driver's Side
cyl 1 - 350-360
cyl 3 - ~400
cyl 5 - ~380
cyl 7 - ~380

Passenger Side
cyl 2 - 385-390
cyl 4 - ~360
cyl 6 - 400
cyl 8 - 375-380

could stuck rings be a possibility since the truck sat 10-11 years unregistered. It did sit with all fluids in it but it was only run once in a blue moon to move it around the guys yard(so i've been told).

Thanks in advance everyone.

Those don't look too bad bro... What did you expect?

YOu just don't what the 100, or 150.... or the beloved Zero...

All within 10% too.

wouldn't the 6.2 N/A have higher compression than the 6.5? i saw higher numbers with my 6.5(all ~400 or so).

*shrugs* i can't figure out what else would cause my unburnt diesel smoke.

injectors are good(Thanks Kenny)
glowplugs are good(i've got to go put them back in now as it's getting dark).
Mechanical advance is working on the IP.

I"m out of ideas. She'll never pass emissions w/ that crap coming out of the tailpipes.

How many miles on that ol' dog?

title says 81K when the guy that originally bought it form the used car place bought it in the late 80s or so.

The odometer says 90341. but that was when it was signed over to the guy i bought it from in 1998. it's never been registered since.

funny part is the speedometer cable is melted by one of the exhaust pipes so i don't know how off the odometer is.

Engine is a Goodwrench crate 6.2. It still says it on the valve covers plain as day. If i believe what i was told that motor was put in not long before the PO bought it. trans is trashed, metal flakes in pan. the original motor died from someone trying to tow too much it looks like.

Any roadtesting involved here? Couple tank fulls? Or unreg/unins?

currently unreg/unins. its got a mix of 50% heating oil 50% ULSD and maybe 10 gallons in the fuel tank with lots of additive(1/4 gallon of marvel mystery).

i do drive it up and down the street. I took it around the block once with a buddy following me.

Gotta use it up and get some regular tank fuls through It I would think. How do you know its not your 'jumbalaya' of fuel thats smoking?

Could you remove the pump to tank and put a hose into a 5 gallon Clean diesel tank and run it for 30 minutes see what happens.

i pumped the heating oil out of the tank(~15 gallons or so) when i first bought the truck. ran it on straight ULSD out of the 5 gallon can then i put 10 fresh gallons into the tank. i recently added the heating oil back into the tank as it doesn't seem to be part of the issue. i'll have to get some more fresh diesel and see if that helps.

6.2s run fine on heating oil. Might get a slightly differnt odor fromthe exhuast but that's about it. When the IP starts going south usually the IP. The only place I know around here is Metro Injection in agawam Mass. I used to used a guy on LI , Diesel INj service but I don't know if he's even in business anymore. Not sure how much of a ride agawam is for you but they are supposedly really good. I have not used them yet.

I"m closer to new york than Mass.

There's a place in fairfield that does diesel testing. "Gaspar" is the name of the place. Ever heard of them?

going to pull the IP today and bring it to a place that can test it. Hopefully out of the 4 i've got kicking around one will be good.

If mine off my current engine that i will be taking out was a db2 i would give it to yah, but its a ds4, rebuilt three years ago and known good......

well folks.

i need an IP. :mad2:

the one off the truck was all rusty inside. water in fuel for god knows how long it seems. There's my smoke.

the 3 spares i had. one the shaft was totally seized and wouldn't turn at all. the other 2 have busted governor rings in the pump.
