Cold idle INOP 99.9% of the time (1993). Cold advance?

I have seen the cold advance work only once. (1000 RPM) Per the visor start instructions I floor it during the glow plug light.

Other than the coolant switch what else should I check and test?

What RPM should I be getting from it?

Does this affect the cold timing advance as well? How do I test that?

You should have 12 volts in the green wire with key on at the coolant temp switch. You could test function of the idle solenoid and cold advance with a jumper wire to battery +. With the engine running you will definitly know if the advance turns on by the rattle.
