My truck isnt shifting right. It wont shift into 4th and stay in 4th, it will downshift right away. If I shut the truck off and restart it then it drives perfect. I just checked the codes and I get.

DTC 22 - Accelerator Pedal Position 1 Circuit Low
DTC 83 - Torque Converter Clutch
DTC 85 - Transmission Gear

Any idea? If Iget time today Ill clear the codes and drive it again and see what we get.

Check wires. Check grounds. Check the plug at the transmission for an oil leak. Sounds like you have 2 separate problems. One is the transmission and the other is the APP sensor. How does the transmission oil look? If the electrical is ok something is slipping bad in the trans.

I would think its electrical since it works fine after you shut it off and restart it.

I pulled the TPS plug apart and sprayed some cleaner in there, also on the transmission plug. Ill take it for a spin again later and see what happens.

The transmission computer "limps" after it sees slipping. Key off/on resets the limp mode - till it slips again. I can key off and on before the engine stops spinning on the freeway... on my way to the trans shop.

I did some more playing around with it. The dipstick tube was broke in half. I fixed that and took it for a spin. It only gets code 22 now. I tried all kinds of stuff and it only gets 22. Even with the key off and on deal it shows 22 but they shifts into 4th.

Fluid looks fine, doesnt smell burnt but does have a smell. Maybe the smell is just hot fluid. Ill see what it smells like cold tomorrow.

There is a tractor forsale down in indiana I wanted. I take it that hauling a tractor doesnt seem like a great idea.

Is it possible the TPS is bad? Since I have 2 rigs the exact same Id rather try swapping parts before blowing any big money.

May be the APPS is bad??? There is a way to test them with multimeter. I am not sure the direction is here or on the other forum.

Swap the accelerator pedal for code 22 and see if that clears it up.

Yeah, use the other rig for towing. You have something near failure in that transmission that has slipped enough for the computer to catch it. Possible the TCC valve body is worn. Mine slipped for a week before OD failed and ran parts through the gears. My other one would drop into 3rd and heat up. Nice thing is you get a warning before you walk usually. Vs. older stuff that just burned completely up without warning...

A light hill you climb in 4th with the TCC locked up around 2100 RPM would be the slip test. I would run it by a trans shop and see what they think. I found a place to get them rebuilt for under a grand here in Phoenix.

Whats a APPS?

The other truck I have has issues too, its a mess.

Ill look into taking it to a transmission shop. Only problem is there is only one close and he will say it needs to be rebuilt. Hes a scam artist, my parents took cars over there to have them change the fluid and they always need to be rebuilt.

Ive been driving my truck and its been acting the same. Today I swapped TPSs and it shifted great, I did get code 83 again after the first drive. I cleared the codes and drove it again and got no codes.

The junkyard is your friend... by the way, never had one of those apart. I know there are 3 sensors in it, maybe there are replaceable parts?

I figured it was just a rheostat, since it adjusts voltage as it moves. The wires are ground, voltage to it which is 5v and then the signal voltage.
