I need some help. I have a 2004 Chevy colorado 4 cyl. base model. I am throwing code P0449 Evap emissions control system vent valve/sol malfunction. I changed the canister vent valve and cleared the code. I drove the truck to work (52 miles) without shutting the truck off and the code didn't pop up. Once I shut it off and re-started it, the code came back on. I bought a new gas cap, cleared the code and drove home. Everything fine. When I got home I shut the truck off, then re-started and the code came back. Thanks for any help. The truck is due for inspection, I need to get this fixed A.S.A.P

Is the truck rusty underneath ? Check all the evap hoses and steel lines, and fill neck. There should be 2 solenoids , one on the motor, and one on or near the charcoal canister .

The solenoid is probably bad at the canister, you should be able to unplug it and use jumper wires from the battery to activate the solenoid. If it does not click then it is bad. Check the connections too for corrosion.
