Code 81

I started working on the deluxe today. When I clear codes and check them without even starting it I get code 81. When I start it and drive it I still get the same code. The transmission wont shift out of first. I put new solenoids in it and that did nothing. Any ideas what to check?

Check all the grounds, esp. the chassis grounds.

I checked the ground and its fine.

Ive got 2 trucks that are the same so I can swap parts. I parked the other truck for the winter but last I drove it everything worked fine.

Is this the one with the rebuilt trans? If so, was it doing this before the rebuild?

Before the new transmission was put in it lost reverse and 2nd gear.

you may want to have a look at the tranny trough connector for bad contacts.
could also be bad VSS,they should read within 20 OHM of each other.

I did switch the speed sensors around. Ill check the ohms out. They were supposed to have been changed before I bought the truck. He said he changed them hopeing to fix the problem.
