I have an April ‘99 506 long block which seized due to a leak in an oil cooler line. I have not opened it up. It is located in Montana. My shipping costs on the new replacement optimizer was $900. Not sure it is worth it. I had offered it to Marty here, but I think he went with a new Optimizer.

I am beginning to think that the biggest problem with main web cracks is one of the components going out of balance.
Harmonic balancer, crank shaft belt drive system, flex plate (rarely) or some other unforeseen event.
The block I have setting in the garage, 260,000+ miles and main webs are not cracked, visually.
I had offered this block to the guy I bought the truck from, he asked about if He could purchase that from Me.
That was last winter sometime and He did respond He wants it but have not heard from Him since. He is a truck driver, local to his area.

Yup. Thats what I did.
I had my previous post typed up this morning but got a call from one of the head custodians and forgot to get back in and tap the post button.
I’m loving this new engine.
Getting the fuel issues ironed out and the MPG is on the rise.
If ever the weather is getting cold, do not get stuck with a tank full of summer blend fuel.

Yes. Thats why I promote balanced rotating assembly, replacing HB every 100,000 miles.

The higher compression adds to it.
Yes the low compression/ higher turbo is hard but only as hard on it when you are pushing it that high of boost which is FAR less often than every cycle!

Then simply the imbalance beats the hell out of it all. Balanced injectors helps smooth the power.
The fluid dampr improves the frequency imbalance throughout most of the rpm range of the engine.

These aren’t just cool little things that help in race engines so they make more power for our under powered engines without as much strain- they seriously all add up to a major improvement making this engine sustainably reliable for longer than a normal dmax and still affordable long term.

We have 2 of the ebay ones on-hand at our main location in PA. We got them to evaluate last year but then got so busy with the GEP stuff that we lost interest in them. Originally got them because we had some customers using them but haven't seen any long term results from them as projects got abandoned, trucks sold, etc. Let us know if we can help with photos or to hook you up. We have everything imaginable on-hand to build one from the ground up or mix/match new with components you already have.

And TBH, we make the same assumption you do. These are the China foundry blocks and the seller is making the minimum order to get them, then distributing them in the USA. There's no data to come to any other conclusion. And, with the price point they are at, that's an acceptable reality.

Something we have to realize is the USA made ones don’t solve all the problems- they are the problems. So looking at others is not a bad idea just risk never is fun when the only gain is save part of the money vs loose all the money & then some.

@Quadstar Tuning LLC have you guys looked at metallurgy check or hardness files or anything like that? We need a friend in the jewelry business that has those fancy light guns for testing metals content.

I wonder about make sure machine work & coatings are done on block & head then send to 300 below for chryo if there is still cost savings

We haven't done anything other than a visual inspection and storing it

Things may have changed but @Twisted Steel Performance had new blocks available from GEP. Maybe still available and no Chinese risk?
