In for the long haul
Hi all. Been awhile since I posted.
About a month ago my "fishbite" was back. Removed the optical filter (if that's what it's called) totally and fish bite was gone.
BUT the real cruncher came on the way back from the lake, not towing, about 3 weeks ago. The transmission would not hold in OD, and would intermittantly, at 70 MPH, jump from about 2200 to 2800 RPM. When it would hold at about 2200, it would seem the torque converter would intermittantly unlock and RPM would increase to about 2400. TC slipping???? Transmission temp guage was steady at about 160-170. And the cruise control would drop out from time to time.
Got her back home. Checked DTCs and had DTC 47 - Intake Air Temperature Sensor Circuit Low (High Temp ) and DTC 83 - Torque Converter Clutch. I had visions of a transmission overhaul, and I'm not sure where DTC 47 would have come from... Any ideas?
Next day when she was cold, I went over and cleaned every ground (again), and as many other elecrical connections connections as I could get to, including fuses. I crawled up under the track as well, and cleaned there, including 3 big connectors to the transmission. I have to say that none of any of the connections looked bad. Then cleared the codes. There is something to be said about the ease of the OBD1.
Well, it's been 3 weeks and the truck is still running like new again (knock on wood or my hard head). And it didn't cost me a dime . I hope I didn't jinx myself by telling you all this though :rolleyes5:. I have only code 12 now.
It seems though, as my title says, keeping the electricals clean on these old trucks simply can not be overstated.
I just thought I would share this with all of the fine people here. Have a great summer.
