2001 dodge mini van 3.3 E85, I bought a number of years back and the check engine light came on, it coded out for O2 sensor, the 3.3 has two of them and the hardest one to get to was the one that went so I said the hell with it and drove with it for YEARS without any ill effect, I ran reg and E85 thru it regularly. My son borrowed the other day and left it empty. I didn't have any gas so I poured two gallons of Methanol in it figuring hell close enough to ethanol. On the way to the gas station the check engine light went out and haven't seen it since. Any guess what happened?

Maybe the Methanol cleaned some carbon off of the spark plug, exhaust, and O2 sensor so that it started working. Might have gotten it hot enough to make the O2 sensor swell a little and that moved something so that it cleaned a connection internal or remade a potted connection or other ?????? Sometimes a big temp swing one way or other will bring life back to a marginally bad electrical connection or kill it.

I'd be willing to bet the alcohol dose cleaned the sensor enough to make it work again. Got a real hot burn and the carbon flaked off. Like when you fire clean the barbeque grill.
