Having some problems we just can't figure out. Don't know if it's connected but started about the time we changed the batteries in it. It was getting to where it wouldn't start and we knew that the batteries were on their last leg. We absolutely could not afford to buy new batteries so we found a couple of good batteries at a salvage yard. They are bigger batteries than we had in it and the 2 batteries are not just alike. One is 880cca @ 0 degrees and 1040amps @32 degrees. The other is 875cca @ 0 degrees and 1000amps @ 32degrees. Will this cause a problem?

My Amp gauge now reads over on the discharge side instead of in the middle. It does not make any difference whether you have the lights or other accessories on or not. It will be pretty close to the middle sitting there idling but as soon as you put it in gear it goes down to the first mark under middle.

Now I have a problem when driving the truck. If I get up to 60mph. and want to let off just a tiny bit to slow down just a tad it will not let me slacken speed like it used to. I will very carefully try to back off a little bit on the foot feed but all at once it's like you took you foot off the accelerator completely. Seems like you either have to give it fuel or not, there is no in between. The truck seems to run smooth as long as you are giving it fuel except that I also have the feeling that the truck is surging when you are not moving the accelerator pedal, but the sound of the engine remains steady and the tach does not vary so I don't think the engine is surging.

The truck starts great with these batteries and idles nice and smooth.

The accelerator peddle has always been very easy to move(Sensitive to pressure) as long as I have had this truck (8years) and takes a pretty light touch.

We have had a hard time keeping good connection on the main battery cable too.

Any suggestions?

We are retired and there is no money to just start trying things so any help would be greatly appreciated!
Thanks!

Could be several things, lets start with the free ones. First I would clean the grounds, the batteries, 2 or 3 by the tranny dipstick, the ones on the intake manifold and the firewall to frame. That one is on the pass side.

I forgot, your batteries are closely matched, I wouldn't worry myself. I would have them load checked though.

Have you charged the batteries fully since install? What is the free voltage on them - no load 30 min on an open circuit. Should be around 12.6-12.8. Less and they need charged or are going bad.

Any codes in the computer? Paperclip use to them to read out. How does the transmission fluid look?

You need to test lift pump pressure. A bad lift pump or OPS can cause surging.
