Changing IP's PMD harness with intake on?

Hey all,

I wanted to check and see if it would be possible to replace the PMD harness on the IP without removing the intake. (lower. upper definitely has to come off.)

The reason I am debating this is due to the PO relocating the ground off the IP and putting it on the intake, and cutting off the factory terminal to do so.
I imagine I could just crimp on a similar to OEM sized terminal and be OK, but I do have a new harness left over from a new ebay PMD kit.

Also, what kind of symptoms can the mis-placed ground cause? the truck runs like crap, real fluctuating RPM, rough running, etc. No blowby, and fires right up, so I think its more an electronic issue.

Any advice appreciated, thanks!

X2 and by pulling the intake you find out what else the PO FUBAR'D on the wiring hidden under there.

Just do it from under the truck, then you can reach straight up in there. You have to remove the block though ;)

well, I am feeling lazy on this truck. (its an auto that I am trading off) :)

Do you think a decent 3M crimp connector would be about as good as the OEM terminal for the ground wire? I am debating about crimping a new terminal on and getting the ground back on the IP, or doing the complete harness. I guess I could give the terminal a shot and if it doesn't work, then proceed.

The would require the ability to do it in the first place... :) soldering is NOT my strong suit. :)

As far as the ground being off the IP, this could be the culprit on the erratic idle and overall poor running, correct?

Just a good ground. All the engines we ran in the fleet we relocated the pmd to inside the cab, and they were grounded in there to the body and had no problems.

As for the crimp on connector, same thing. The only advantage of soldering is corrosion resistance for long term. A good crimp eyelet on cleaned metal will do fine. If your not sure - pull out the ohmmeter.

To fight noise interference a large diameter short length ground wire is best.

You can try, nothing to lose. Otherwise, the whole IP harness may be hacked also?
