Ok guys now this thread is kind of old school I know because of the newer technology(cell phones, gps, etc), but I am wondering what you guys know about CB radios. Me and 2 buddies that tow campers around are thinking of maybe getting cb for our trucks. That way we can all talk and hear instead of dialing cell phone then doing it again to talk to other one.
My question is what would be a good unit but cheap as hell if possible??
We don't want to spend alot of money on them and I figured this is a great place to ask about users info.

You can get a cheap Cobra or Uniden at a truck stop for 30 or 40 bucks. I got a a cheep on in the wifes car and it works good. I dont own a vehicle without a radio in it!

yeah i been loking on ebay and amazon and they are midland, cobra with atennas for around 40-65 bucks, but are they any good.

Cobra 25 LTD Classic, or Uniden PC68XL would be my recommendation. I have had a Uniden Grant XL for the last 15+ years with no complaints. SSB is probably a waste do don't bother spending the money. Do get a good antenna and have the SWRs matched by the shop or get a meter and figure it out. Try to buy from a CB shop if you can, those guys will usually peak and tune new units very reasonably and mine will even help with the install for free.

I run one in the truck and one in my Mercruiser Grand Marquis, both Cobra Model 29 LTD classics, both peaked and tuned by a CB shop. The Merc has a magnetic Wilson antenna and the truck a permanent Wilson antenna! They work well when the radio and antenna are "matched"! No "lost" or "dropped" signals either.

I run one in my van and my pick up. Good for highway trips as the truckers love to tell anyone and everyone where the cops are hiding.
I think the antenna is where to spend the money on. I have wilson's with loaded base so they are not very tall.
