I am a regular on dieselplace, but was sent here to get answers regarding timing and the Car Code scanner. I ordered the scanner, and was curious as to exactly what I can do with this. I want to set my timing, which I know can be done, but what else is possible. Also, do you think it is possible to use the engh motors software with the car code cable even though the engh software is OBDI. It seems as though it is more popular than the car code.

Thanks

The Engh Motors sofware won't work with the carcode cable, 12 pin connector (obd-1) verses 16 pin (obd-2).

Carcode will do pretty much whatever you want from timing to shutting off injectors.

Search qwomacks posts he did a write up of how to do the ip timing with carcode. I have it also works pretty good for the money.

Car Code

Got the scanner today and messed around a little. Figured out how to shut off injectors one by one, but I think someone said you could lock the transmission in certain gears, but I haven't figured out how to do that yet. Also messed around with the timing functions a little bit. My base timing at idle is around 9 or so with a 1.94 offset about. (this is with the optic bump still). I plan on removing the bump and moving the IP to get to around 3.5 and hopefully that will get me around -1.5 TDCO.

Also, can you do anything like shut off the ABS light, or test glow plugs and stuff like that with this scanner?

Thanks

Undid the optic bump today, and messed with the timing for a while and managed to get TDCO to -1.32. With this, the actual and desired timing at idle are like 8.5-8.7. It seems to go fine, but would probably go better at -1.5 or -1.94, but I don't know if I want to go in and move the pump yet.

I think I looked online for the hell of it the other day and it was like 230 or 250 I think.

IIRC that's about right, then $250 for GM enhancements, then $250 for FORD, etc. AE is probably a better program but I bought CarCode because $250 does it all.
