ok so here is my dilema I know a guy who has a 86 K30 crew cab long bed for sale 6.2 160000m new tranny last winter, flat bed, and plow, i think a 4in lift, and he is suposidly going to get it painted and the rust fixed the interior is ruff. I dont want the flat bed or plow so i would sell them. he is asking 3000 unless he changed it. Iv always wanted a truck like that.

Or I would also like to get a 6.5 crew cab long bed. i was thinking of a pre 94 but not ruling out any later years just like the mechanical pumps. im looking forward to later in my life when i start a family and settle down want to get a truck that will get me around and do the things i need

not gong to sell my truck ganna keep her. what i want to know is what would you guys do? my gf dnt want me to get the 86 she thinks it will be a mony pit due to the work it will need to make it nice. but heck a 6.5 would be as well.

I vote for a newer crew cab. Get one with a DS-4, the later model pumps are supposed to be the most durable and make the most power. I read somewhere that the internals are more durable, and the electronic pumps can deliver more fuel. The only electronic problem I've had after 170,000 miles is the PMD, and that's been solved for a long time now with Heath's solution.

I think every truck is a money pit. At least the dozens I have owned  Dont tell her that though... get what you want!

that just it i think that truck looks mean but i will have to find a bed for it and the interion is really ruff its been used as a hunting truck and a plow truck for the last 10+ years i think the 6.5 would be a better option but can i find one thats what i want what year would be the best? i like my 93 but itsa hard to find one thats in nice condition ahh i hate making desicions:confused:
what was the last year for the 6.5s in a crew cab 1ton

It's 2000. Just for kicks go on Autotrader.com right now and search for 4x4 cc 1999-2000s with no limit on distance, those people are out of their gourds.

where the 2000 the different body style? i was just thinking bout that ace's and had i been thinking like this a little sooner i would have come and goten it with all the mods u had done it would have been worth the price and the distance

You live in Nebraska and don't want the plow?!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!?!?!?!??!?!?!?!?!??!?!??!?!?!?!??!?!

What's wrong with you sir?

I agree the lifted, older body style trucks can look nicely mean with the right wheel/tire combo.

Still should consider how the interior's improved (older -> 88-94 -> 95 ->, if you might have a family ridding in it. Selling prices don't seem to jump drastically higher $'s, for the '94-2000 trucks, considering they've got more modern features.

At my local U-Pull-It type salvage yards, there seems to consistently be more '88-'98 GM donor pickups than the earlier models. Over the 1st year of my project, I sourced a lot of small parts for insignificant $, that would have added up if purchased new.

If 'ya could find one like mine, where the old farmer had consistently maintained/replaced parts when necessary, etc. planning long-term. Then when it started pressurizing the coolant system (headgasket), he'd had enough & put it on ebay. You've seen the truck - gave $2100 for it, running, but w/ failed head gasket. Main point for me was that it was good enough, to be worthy of some spending to build a competent engine & refurbishing to make it look & perform respectably.

Prolly worth watching ebay and other online sources. Who knows how/if Cash fer Clunkers will take significant amounts of these trucks off the road, & for the most part, not put many usable components into the salvage yards.

the reason i dont want that plow is that it was a ford plow and the mounts and pump where fabed into an ugly bumper that is welded to the frame. I want a plow but would rather have it on my 93 due to the shorter wheel base. the farm i used to work had an 03 f350 power joke crew cab dually that they put a plow on after the jeep wagoneer that we where using to plow with took a giant crap and all but blew up into a million pieces. that jeep was an awsome plow truck had a v8 resonable power and could turn well just needed a little more weight. the f350 on the other had was better on power and weight but it was like tryin to turn a freight trian around

Smithville

those are all the things that have made me decide to get a newer 6.5 problem is that i am impatiant and i can find any thing like what i want
i found a 95 but it seems to me that the 94s and 95s seem to have more problem than the earlier/ later modles
