I emailed a ebay seller who said his blocks were cast and machined in Canada. I asked him to provide info to verify such as company or foundry name. This was his response

Dear ------,

Our U.S. supplier won't tell us exactly what company, (because he knows we may attempt to buy direct), but we think it is the cylinder head foundry outside Montreal.

Thanks, Jeff

Can anyone verify this? Any Eastern Canada 6.5ers?

I think another member found the same e-bay vendor, and finally got out of them that they were chinese blocks machined in canada. that description was pure wordplay, this is what was really meant: cast (in china,)and (then) machined in canada.

This may be another e-bay vendor, so dont take my post as truth.

well I live in Montreal, and I do not know of a foundry near Montreal. machine shops , plenty, foundry none (that I know of) If you guys have an inkling of a name or more info I would be happy to do some digging for you guys..

So isn't there some sort of industrial bisness directory you could look in

Well if there was a possibility of quality 6.5 blocks being made in my backyard I would do some serious investigation. just saying

I doubt it very much if a Canadian foundry could compete with China.
I think china ships them to the US for under $800 a finnished block.

The Cylinder Head Center referenced in the hyperlink is strictly a cylinder shop, either reman or new. No casting of blocks ever came out of the Terrebonne shop. I will call them on Monday and see if I can get a scoop on whats going on with the 6.5 blocks

Not sure if it was the same vendor on e-bay, but we phoned one (specializing in 6.5liter) in the spring (2010) and were under the impression that the blocks were cast in Ontario. Go figure, told him we lived just north of Montreal.....we deal with a good re-builder here, I'll call them also.

Turbonator,

I called the shop and no they do not cast engine blocks.. From what I understand there maybe a Canadian distributor for the "made in China" blocks.

There was a chinese distributor in toronto 2 yrs ago for a short while,i bought 4 heads from him,he had blocks too.they moved to LA .
They told me there was not enough business in Canada to stay put.
I got his email adress still somewhere.

But then there is "good" cast/spec Chinese, and the "other stuff"........As a member here once said, "The right manufacturer will produce a good product"......IIRC, JMHO.

There are many such directories. Plus how do you define outside of Montreal ? A few miles, 50 miles ?? more ..

it is pretty hard to define ''outside of montreal'' because it is almost solid population until ottawa..lol we are up in lac superieur, north of montreal just beside tremblant...... and we have also talked to jeff at 6.5l and the blocks he sells are cast in Brazil and finished in a shop in the ''montreal area'' IMO as long as the blocks are not cast in china its all good... also as a side note he told us that the blocks are cured 4 months so they are stable before machining..... that was gm's biggest problem is that the blocks were not allowed curing time before they were machined, thus the cracking issues...

whats the difference if they are made in my '' backyard '' or not? maybe for someone that is shopping for a new block, but for 98 percent of us we take used iron and make due... not every 6.5er is full of money... i think that is the reason most of us have 6.5l diesels in the first place..... if it is that important to you to know where the blocks are cast...search.. it is just as easy for you to find out as anyone else... thats what the internet is for...
