So I have a 95 and I was wondering can the dealer flash it to obd2? I'm just wondering because my 7.3 was a 94 and had it reflashed to obd2. I just want to have obd2 for scan gauge 2. Is this even possible on the 6.5?

No, the physical ECM is different. 95- used a replaceable PROM chip whereas 96+ used one soldered into the board. You could swap all the wiring and such over, but theres no gains to be had from it really.

So I would have to swap all the wiring over or just the computer harness and one gain would be a handheld tuner or chip and being able to use my scanner on it.

Ive heard Scan Gauge is not compatible with 6.5 ECMs. Even though I think they list it as it being so.

Yep, I've heard this as well. GM used a quite unique data protocol for the 6.5's that was rather slow IIRC, and it doesn't play well with the scangauge.

There are no hand held tuners or chips for OBD2 6.5's. With OBD1 you can get a different PROM for it, but OBD2 at this time is mostly limited to sending in your ECM to be flashed, getting an exchange flashed ECM, or spending about $1200 to get setup with tunercat to do your own tuning. So there is no real benefit to going to OBD2, in fact a few with OBD2 have gone back to OBD1 because they can be tuned ALOT cheaper and chips are alot less money.

Thanks for the info I guess I'll just have to deal with it and fix my fuel gauge and calculate mpg like every one else lol.
