PASSED:thumbsup::thumbsup::thumbsup::thumbsup::

Had my son take the '99 Suburban in for the smog check. It was the first diesel for the guy who did it. I had my son scrape the BD Diesel Performance sticker off the rear window before taking it in ):h It was entirely visual. He did not even check the exhaust underneath. Checked under the hood and then ran a low idle and acceleration test to check for excessive smoke. Like I said, it passed.

Now the bad news. After they were done, they found a pool of diesel fuel on the ground under the truck. They checked and the leak appears to be around the fuel filter manager. Engine ran fine, so it must be before the IP. He drove it home which was a 1/4 mile away. I'm on the road, so we'll hunt down the leak on the weekend.

You know, the fuel lines running through the valley get old and brittle over time, the o rings in the filter manager do the same thing.

Whether you buy a kit from me or not, you might consider pulling the intake, and upgrading to a feed the beast setup, while replacing that fuel line.

Congrats, I guess we can say A Team Turbos - Now California compliant!*

Veg, already ordered a Feed The Beast kit from you and handed over to my son for use on his '95. May have to order another. Also some rattle stops, though the dash on the '99 is clean as if it was never off roaded.

You have to make sure the filter is clocked correctly, it only goes down correctly in one position and many people dont look at it before pushing it down and tightening plastic nut. And make sure there are not old gaskets where the filter sets down.

wish mine did, he just keeps uping his rates. paid 92 bucks to do my 88 ranger, my wifes buick is bigger than the ranger :)

Before installing a new fuel filter... I turn it upside down so you can see the various slot widths just inside the seal ring. Find the widest slot, then use a permanent marker to draw lines on the outside marking the edges of this wide slot. The wide slot matches the doink at the front (vehicle front) of the fuel manager. Center your marks over the doink and slide it right in! I'm sure a picture would help, eh? Maybe another day?

Now my son has discovered the (truck) Porno site I hang out at :):thumbsup:

:haha: Not to often a father and son are on the same forum. Glad to know your son likes diesel trucks instead of those damn Honda's with the fart cans

It is very easy to not install the fuel filter square and sealing. Do as NoDak said. Pay attention to the o-ring and the slide on screen in there.

Time to find him a 6.5 then!

Like many decisions between father and son, he had no say in the matter as I gave him my '95. Now he gets to learn alongside me.

On the fuel filter for the '99, we'll check it this weekend as I'm on business in Vegas. However, we just drove the truck back from Moline Il two weeks ago and no leaks. Plus we just finished changing the fuel filter on the '95 on Sunday, so well familiar with finding the right notch position. I have a feed the beast kit, so it might end up that I just install that as part of the leal resolution process. Definitely need to do it this weekend as my wife has a DMV appointment on the 11th to re-title and register it.

Big T,

Go get yourself the new o rings from the stealership. While you have the fuel manager apart, you might as well replace them too!

Will do. I'll set my son on this task.

BTW I confess that my daily commute car is an '05 Honda Accord, though it does not have the fart can on it. AND my son has my wife's old '95 Integra, but no fart can on it either. :eek:
