I recall seeing something about adding a steel part so the belt didn't eat up the radiator hose from bouncing on 6.2's ?

Anyway I can watch the belt visibly bounce from the crankshaft to the AC compressor and it results in noise I can hear in the cab. I don't see the tensioner moving.

just wondering if this is normal or if I have a shot damper/tensioner?

The tensioners on these are known to lockup and take bearings in the alt and water pump with them. They can destroy the crank pulley also. The arm will bind up because the plastic bushing that it rides on inside wears out and then goes to metal on metal.Rock auto sells them pretty cheap. The last one I bought was a gates that has a different design from oem. $35
