Wifey and I may be looking for upgrading to a 5er. Any advise on where to go? We bought our first at an RV show. We love our camper, but kinda feel like we were buying our first car:dupe:. This time we want to go in and get the best deal, and what we want. What'd ya'll sugguest? Dealer/show? New/Used? Etc...

I have only purchased one 5er and a couple of campers, twice i bought from private sellers and one from a used lot.I have never bought new though as the sticker shock was just too much for me.You can find so may used in great condition but its up to you.
RV-net has many pages of information on this subject-what type are you looking for (pop-outs,length,TH- etc)?

Thanks, will look that one up. I was thinking of used (as we have one now, and it's a little cheaper) but new would be nice.

I went used and I know there is no way I would have gotten half the camper I did for twice the money new. We did have to look around for a while before we found what we wanted. We found ours at Camping World.

Answering these two questions before you begin shopping and sticking to it is a good idea. If you do that it won't matter where you buy. I would think if you find a dealer sitting on a bunch of inventory they would be wanting to move it. What with high fuel prices and all the talk of a slow economy.

I just bought a new 5Ver. Was in the same position as you. Farmdog has some good advice. Look for a dealer with a lot of inventory. Especially hold over models. They want to get rid of them especially the hold overs. Just bought a 07 hold over very cheap, I was very suprised. Bought it at NADA used value and have all the new rig warranties. It took some time but patience is your best friend.

We bought our last 5er as a hold over and got a great deal. Just don't let the dealer know that you're in a hurry to buy or that you have to have that one.

They'll deal more if they believe that you are willing to walk away.

My wife and I went to the shows and searched the internet to see what was out there, as well as reading up on RV.net.

Once I found the rig, I shopped prices. Cheapest I found was at rvwholesalers (there are many different thoughts about these outfits). I went to a local dealer to see the unit in person and he offered to match the price plus $800. $800 was well worth having a local dealer for repairs and such.

Now, it's for sale since we don't get to use it much these days.:cuss: Hasn't even been used a dozen times in two years.
