Burning up self limiting glow plugs?

Any outstanding reason I would be burning out self limiting glow plugs? I burned up the Bosch Duraterms on Patch and replaced them. 3 of 8 out. The 60G's are maybe 3 working today since the summer replacement. (Local parts store stupidly quit carrying the Bosch. So I had to try the 60G's.) Didn't have a problem with long glow times on the 1995. My EGT is limited to 1000 degrees +- 200 by the 6.2 pump at the moment.

Sorry. Advanced timing of the IP can tips of gp to be burned up. It will do it in cylinders with highest compression first.

So can leaky injector. Without a pop tester the only verification is: new gp set, swap around injectors, check gp again at roughly same interval. Obviously sucky cuz it is long diagnosis.

Hot fuel can do it- too much diesel911 (I doubt you use), little gasoline or too much kerosene,or ethanol in the mix. Not that you add it, but the cut from the distillery.
This will usually be noticed by "wow my truck seems to be running great right now". This wipes out all the gp, not just a couple. But if you have uneven compression, it will start taking out the better cylinders first.

The self limiting design shouldn't be effected by glow time or after glow, because by design the cut power when heat reaches too high. If the relay is sticking and coming on very frequently while driving, then it could be wearing them out very quickly.
 
To much voltage can kill even a self regulating plug. This is primarily a problem with after glow with really big alternators causing 14 volts or more to hit the plugs.
 
I can relate... on the way home from IL a few months ago my motor started sounding like I had turned the pump all the way advanced but I didn't touch it, it was a cracked fuel line sucking a tiny amount of air, at a idle everything sounded right, but at road speed it rattled VERY bad, advanced timing because of micro amount of air flowing through the system, I drove it 700 miles that way to get home... once home it didn't want to start cold and when it did start it was smoky and cold.. bought glows & a new harness, all the glows were gone all the way to the threads, no damage to the motor tho..

Too much advance will eat them up....

Like the 144 AMP CS-140 I have and big wire kit to the distribution block... :eek:

I have been told that too much advance will erode the glow plugs. New that it would/could burn them out.

I know the IP is just wonky smoking white at idle. Now too much advance at mid throttle just by ear to correct the white smoke at idle. Maybe the higher pop injectors cause this or the GP issue? Need to drop the 6.5 .31 plunger IP in anyway from the Banana Truck.

My first 6.5 failure with the scuffed piston had some 60G's gone to the threads. Glad I am not alone in seeing that.
 
I pulled the glow plugs and found a rusty like texture on them. It appears the glow plugs are eroding. Have good compression as all of them were the same. Most still worked.
