Went out yesterday on the back roads and did some "let's see how this does" kinda playing around with my sig truck. Tires are stock size, semi-agressive M/S tread and near new.

Has alot of axle hop in 2WD when it breaks loose under torque. Has the LS / lock up rear end and I am not sure how these work.

Truck was empty so I don't think it's from spring wrap up cause of the rating. Ride on the washboards etc. is quite good with very little tail end skitter in the turns even in 2WD.

In 4WD over the same road, under enough torque to break it loose it will try to bunny hop a bit.

Need some help from mudders and pullers out there.

Nope. I actually checked the front and rear ratio's--same. 4WD is locking and unlocking properly. Only tries to hop when on the virge of breaking the tires loose. My wife's '03 Dakota hemi just digs in and goes--no posi in it. Am wondering how this LS locker actually works-might be cycling somehow.

I checked the RPO and it's a G80 so it is a governor actuated locker. Am thinking it is cycling between lock and unlock. Prolly do better with a load. Gonna do some more digging, not sure why they also call it a limited slip unless it also has clutches.

The Eaton Gov-Loc (RPO G80 in the trucks) isn't a limited slip, it's a locker; and you should be using straight gear oil in it with no posi or limited slip additives. There's a TSB out from GM about this exact subject and they state pretty clearly that use of those additives is considered contamination of the gear oil and can contribute to erratic behavior from the unit.

There are friction discs in there but not in the traditional sense of a posi or limited slip unit. Anyway short story is they need straight gear oil, no friction additives.

I figured that out and posted a writeup from Eaton in the driveline section. I pulled the cover and cleaned it all out, replaced the fluid and it fixed the problem. My info is that in 1998 they changed the seals and clutches and switched to synthetic.

That is true, it is important to know what'chya got.

I use an Auburn pro-diff in the '74 C10, it's one tight clutch type diff. It likes Lakewood BFL lube. It's basically their own hypoid dino-lube with a good friction modifier package.
