There is a 5/16 Brass compression coupling on my transmission line.

I was told it would fail eventually. It's been there as long as I can remember.

Should I fix it?

Are there heavier duty comprssion fittings to replace it?

Thanks

mine is done that way and its holding up just fine. i used to work for a trans shop and thats what we did when we had to repair the lines. just check it every once in a while to make sure its not leaking.

Do they make heavier duty 5/16 compression fitting to replace this one with?

I'll never know if it starts leaking. It's on the daughter's Suburban. I never see it unless I have to.

If you are going to the trouble to fix it use a double flair fitting on the line and a double flair coupling. If it's not leaking why fix it? I've had several with a compression fitting on them with no problems.

Stainless instrumentation fittings are good for about 10k psi.

FWIW I have a brass ferrule on an injector line on my combine for about 10 years.

I imagine Parker, Aeroquip, and Weatherhead all make what you're looking for in their industrial hydraulic line of fittings Jeff. Since I have to deal with their websites from time to time I will tell you that you're going to need quite a bit of time to sort through them. If I remember tomorrow, I take a look at some of their catalogs I have at work. Kinda busy there right now though.
