driving home this afternoon I got about 6 miles from home and my temp gauge started going crazy. jumped from about 170 to 220 back and forth. when it would did this the heat from the dash would get cold when it rose to 220 and extremely hot when it dropped to 170. noticed at the first stop sign that it was running rough (like a gasser with 1 fouled plug), there was alot of smoke, and the SES light came on for the first time. I thought for sure it was the head gasket. I limped home the last 1/4 mile from the stop sign to my driveway and it is just pouring out smoke and no power.

before I shut it off I smelled the exhaust....... strongly smells of fuel. I shut it off and let it cool down. I checked the coolant and it was not low. tried to start the engine and it will not turn over (like its hydrolocked). I checked the oil and it was over fuel ...... alot over fuel (the distance from the add to the full mark is how far over full it is) and smells strongly of fuel... like somebody poured a gallon of fuel into the oil pan.

could this be caused by a blown injector tip or a stuck injector? or am I looking at something more sinister............

the engine has 200,XXX miles on it....

It would have to be an injector failure of some kind. How many miles on them? Recommended replacement is @ 100K. I would surely want to get that fuel contaminated oil out of there.

I bought it from a dealership that got it from the original owner. I have every receipt for every service back to when it was new. I see nothing about injectors.

going to take all the injectors out and use my vacuum pump to suck all the fuel out of the cylinders and try to find somebody nearby with a diesel compression tester and do a compression check. might as well change the glow plugs too if the compression checks out.
