I have a new used tractor and the dealer suggested adding biocide to tank as he did not know history of fuel. And he knew I balked at a deal on another tractor because during test drive it quit due to algae plugging filter.

I looked at the local marine store for some biocide and the label kinda scared me. It suggested to inject biocide into streaming tank fill. And it seemed very concentrated I would only use 1/4 oz for my 20 ish gallon tank. It mentioned it might create solids if too high of concetration of biocide.

Also, wondering best method of treatment. I think it would be best to mix it in a 5 gallon jug shake to mix well add to tank and fill tank up then let sit for a couple of days then run like normal and at first start let it run at least for a good while to flush IP and system with new treated fuel.

Does anyone do any periodic treatment or annual biocide for stuff that sits sometimes for a week like tractors.

Do you ever polish your truck tank fuel? I think the recirculation / constant pumping of driving a truck kinda polishes fuel over and over but can the sock and tank benefit from an occasional biocide treatment just to be sure?

After you clear it out with biocide, try a little 99% bio diesel to clean it out really well. Then change the fuel filters and go back to regular #2 diesel.

The steps you described seem to be in line with other threads I have read. If in doubt, contact the company and get some further info.
