I had the front end jacked up the other day and noticed that one of the lower shock bushings had a gap in it. Has anybody else noticed this on their bilstien shocks?
I have also noticed alot of bounce and rebound when driving on rough roads. How long are these shocks supposed to last? I put them on when I had about 35000 miles and now have about 70000 miles. what do yall think? Is it the shocks worn out or just the bushings or is my mind going

I had the yellow ones and they did that. Then they broke. I broke them front and back. Currently needing new ones.

Hey Nick I recall you saying you had some that were gonna be your own part number and valving for cranked trucks. Did you ever get that done. I need a set for mine, front cranked maybe 2 inchs, 2 inch block back.

Nick,
I have the yellow ones with the blue/green boots.

Those shocks come up about 1/2" short and end up blowing out the lower bushings. Replace the bushing and try and space the shock down so it stops over extending.

So, do you reckon I blew the front shocks or just the bushings? and, how do you go about spacing them down? one more, where would you get new bushings from?

thanks
scott

If the shock leaks or pushes the rod out when you remove the shock then yes you will need to replace it.

Depending if your shock has push in style or not you may need to call Bilstein and see what they can do.

I have heard of guys installing more washers before the bushing to increase the length at the top of the shock where it installs in the truck frame.

I love the ride on the ones I got, they are much better than the yellows were. The fronts were still just a little too short to put in at full droop though. I ended up not tightening them real far on top so they wouldn't get too short.

they arived this afternoon. (good shipping! :) )

Installed pretty quick, about an hour and a half for all four.

the difference is amazing! rides like a new truck.

I believe the yellow ones must work good for the 1500's with the gas motor since it is way lighter.

anyway, thanks for putting these out there as a set.
