Best way to wire dual post batteries?

Keeping in the 6.5 forum as I think we probably have more issues with our batteries and connections than any of the other trucks.

I replaced my batteries recently and have already had an issue with that stupid GM lead spacer set up, so I'm going to get rid of it.

Since I have top and side post, which way would be best to wire them up? I'm thinking starter and crossover to the top posts, alt and accessories to the side posts? Is there a better way?

Use whatever posts suits you.

You can use the side posts without the easily stripped sidepost bolt.

I use 3/8x16 tpi stainless allen screws about 1 1/4" long. clean things up and give them a baking soda bath and clean a little more. Then a few washers and a 3/8 grade 8 nut with lots of coppercoat

An important factor against corrosion is to use a good coating all around - but not between your connections unless you use coppercoat, nickle or silver antiseez that do not seem to affect conductivity.

If using dialectic grease, keep it from between the conductive surfaces, as it can inhibit conductivity.

Use never seez when attaching your grounds also and the hold down bolts on the battery tray.

While you have your battery out clean your tray up a little and give it a liberal dowsing of baking soda. This will nuetralized any battery acid that gets in that area and keep it from eating anything underneath.

I always run a bigger alternator cable or 2 stock sized - one to each battery.
The OEM alternator wires aren't big enough to handle the load properly. Causing overheating of the wire and alternator. Effectively shortening the life of both. The wire is only sized for about 40 amps.

GM is pretty famous for undersized wires. The wires running to the lift pump aren't any to big for the size fuse the run off of either.
The wires running to the heater blower motor are notoriously undersized and problematic. If you haven't yet - add a ground from the blower to the dash bolt.

I had custom cables made with cast copper ends that connected the top posts and another to go from the side post to the starter. Both cables are 2-0 cable. It turns over like 6 batteries are connected. OEM cables are crap.
