Long story short i responded to a craigslist ad that was local for a free 6.2, only thing i si have to help remove it form the truck. No big deal since there's no front clip on the truck at all. Fenders, hood, inner fenders all gone.

So this morning before i leave to look at it the owner calls me and said "i can't turn the engine with a 1/2" drive breaker bar...at all." Great so it's seized. The engine hasn't run in 3 years, but was running when the truck was parked.

I know the best way is to tear it down and see what's stuck, but i don't have the time or the money to reassemble it properly right now with new gaskets, headbolts/studs, etc etc.

I get there and we grab the breaker bar again and this time put a piece of pipe on the end. Before we even tried to turn it, i knew it was locked up real bad. It didn't budge even a 1/4 inch. I checked the oil, it was low but there was oil in it and no signs of water in the oil. Inside the air filter housing was a nice mouse nest and the EGR valve was really rusty with signs of water getting in.

On the bright side I'm also getting the 14 bolt 3.42 rear axle from the truck for free. It looks to be the FF but with the hubcaps still on i couldn't tell for sure. Will make a nice upgrade for the blazer once i come across a Dana 60 front end and swap to 3.42s.

Anyways, what's the best way to un-stick this engine? It'll be a spare that'll spend it's life in my shed until needed, but i'd like to know the engine at least turns over before re-arranging everything in my shed to make room.

I've heard one can fill the cylinders with marvel mystery oil and let it sit for a while then remove the injectors or glowplugs and attempt to turn it over. Are there any other ways you folks know of?

X2 on the Marvel Mystery Oil. It's worth a shot.

My Dad scored a generator with a seized motor for free. We dumped some Marvel Mystery Oil in the bore waited a few days then it spun over. Fired it up and ran it for a day with no problems.

The Motor is junk. You are wasting your time. It needs to be disassembled and rebuilt.
Sorry but that is my honest opinion. At best maybe it's only one cyl and could be honed and reringed but with that much force and it's still not turning...Not likely.

I'd pull the glows and see if any water comes out. I could be a simple case of hydro lock. If nothing else you not doing anything extra

Keep in mind the more excessive force you try the more likely you can bend a rod.

That's where i'll start. It was raining today so i didn't get a really good look at the engine. I'll pull the glows and try turning it. i have a feeling Kenny's right, but that engine comes with the axle, and the axle seems to be a good find. However since the bar was on the crank pulley bolt i didn't put much force on it as i didn't want to snap it. once the engine's out i'll try turning it from the flywheel side as it's a SM465 truck.

Strange how it's locked up though. Not only was it covered, but the air filter housing was on and tightened down. There was no way for water to get directly in. It'd have to get around the air cleaner housing(which had no holes in it) and then into the intake. The engine was totally sealed too. Injectors all in place and tight, all glowplugs install and hooked up too.

There was a mouse nest in the air filter housing. wonder if it's seized via mouse p!ss? that's a lot of mouse p!ss though.

If the mouse pee went down the intake - it is like battery acid. Ruins electronics for the same reason. I hope that is not the case for it...

I hate mice. They should all die horribly.

Is this horrible enough? :dead:

In a ploy to rid Guam of its population of invasive brown tree snakes, the U.S. Department of Agriculture is bombing the island with drugged frozen mice, military news outlet Stars and Stripes reported.

Using Naval Base Guam as a starting point, scientists drop mice packed with acetaminophen from helicopters into the jungle canopy.

The drug -- commonly found in Tylenol -- provided a regulatory advantage because it had already undergone extensive testing, Dan Vice, assistant state director of USDA Wildlife Services in Hawaii, Guam and the Pacific Islands, told Stars and Stripes.

Guam’s snake problem began in the 1980s, when the creatures arrived on the island accidentally in military cargo. The mildly venomous snakes can grow up to 10 feet long and, according to the Department of Land and Natural Resources for the State of Hawaii, are the leading cause of endangerment for some of Guam’s native animals.

“The discovery that snakes will die when they eat acetaminophen was a huge step forward,” Anne Brooke, conservation resources program manager for Naval Facilities Command Marianas told Stars and Stripes. “The problem was how you get the snakes to eat it.”

The solution was to drop the mice into the snakes’ natural habitat, the branches of trees in the jungles of Guam. By outfitting the mice with cardboard wings and green party streams, the bait could float down to the jungle and catch on the branches. The result is a hanging, deadly snack for the snakes.

Researchers began testing the system at the beginning of September, dropping 200 mice into 20 acres around the base, Stars and Stripes reported.

The effectiveness of the drop will offer insights into how well it might work elsewhere on the island -- and whether it might be a key to solving a longtime ecological problem, Vice said.

I got plenty for them. I found one today in the battery box of my L8000. I sprayed the little f' in the eyes with berkabile Carb cleaner. I guarantee he's hurtin.

 Thanks Kenny, I needed that

Dave, honestly, if your getting a free engine and whatnot than have at it. Try the marvel mystery oil and see what happens. Worst comes to worst you salvage the usable stuff from the engine like the upper manifold, valve covers and other crap then scrap the engine for salvage money. Free is free. Hell, some of the best things in life are free... or end up hurting you more.

picked up the stuck 6.2 today. It's a 660 block so it's definitely a 6.2 and not a 6.5. Promptly started ripping it apart. Got the driver's side head off in about 2 hours, after pulling the IP, injectors and glow plugs. Two cylinder's had rusty crap in them, but i see no damage to the pistons from signs of eating anything.

Motor was clean under the valve covers, so it wasn't abused during it's life.

Had the original Print-o-seal Felpro headgaskets. The block may be useable after a clean up of the bores. I'll be able to tell once i get the pistons out. If i find no cracks in the bottom end i'll most likely be saving the block, if not more.

The axle is a Semi-floater 8 bolt. Guessing it's a 14 bolt SF axle as the dif's a pretty good size. The guy said according to the RPO codes in the glove box it's got 3.42s in it. Might be able to use it, might not. I"ll have to do my research first.

I responded to a similar ad here in oklahoma. The guy took the block as payment for a debt and it was locked up. Dumped oil in the GP holes and let it sit. It freed itself up but he can't get a new starter to crank it fast enough to fire. I passed $100.

If it won't turn fast enough to fire with a new starter i'm betting the pistons/rings are very tight in the bores, and it's probably junk that's desperately in need of an overbore to clean the bores up.

This engine wouldn't even budge with a 1/2" drive breaker bar and a pipe for extra leverage on the breaker bar. It's stuck real bad. If it wasn't free, i'd have passed as well. If anything i wanted the Axle, but the axle came with the engine.

My thoughts exactly. I asked if he just wanted to give it to me maybe $10-20. LOL NOPE!

Hopefully this block is crack free. The rest of the engine seems to be in good shape(save for the obvious being locked). No sludge in the valve covers at all. No physical damage to the pistons(indents. etc). IP was healthy. The advance piston still worked. I'm amazed it wasn't stuck. That's usually the first thing to stick.

Well the seized 6.2 is no longer seized. Friend of mine was able to break it free today with a prybar on the flywheel teeth after PB blaster sat in the driver's side cylinders for a few days. The walls don't seem pitted, but i haven't checked the other bank yet. The headgasket was about to fail in between the two middle cylinders on the driver's bank though.

The driver's head has no cracks in between the valves. I hope the passenger side head is the same.

I"ll be pulling the passenger side head off and hitting all the tops of the walls with a ball hone to hopefully clean the crud off the walls.

This thing might run yet. If all i have to do it a slight hone, put new HGs and bolts in it, that's worth it for me. Finger's crossed.
