Best Place to Buy Engine and Tranny Mounts?

Hi guys,

I'm preparing to purchase replacement engine and tranny mounts for the Tahoe. I am looking for OEM mounts. I am not going to do urethane mounts. I've tried shopping at our vendors, but I don't think they carry these.

Any suggestions for a source (other than the local dealership - they want a small fortune for these)?

Thanks so much,

Rob :)

Have you checked Rockauto?
Just curious but why dont you want the urethane mounts? :)

Most of the guys I heard from (when I asked about engine mounts in a previous thread) said that the urethane mounts transmit too much vibration back to the passenger compartment. I suppose I could try and dampen the vibrations (e.g. with a Fluidampr, etc.), but I can't afford that right now.

Plus, the original mounts lasted 14 years, so they can't be all that bad.

I got a set for my 95 LD at napa. Pretty cheap.Something like $15 each. I'm using energy suspension urethane in my 93 project.I am having difficulity getting lined up for the through bolts. Kennedy said that he has used the energy suspension pieces for many years in many trucks with no vibration problems. He has the install in his "tech tips"

Yes, until the engine weight is setting on them, the thru bolt hole doesn't quite line up when bolting the engine side & frame side mounts together (on the engine stand) w/ urethane inserts. If doing the mounts w/ the engine out, I found it easier to bolt the motor & frame side mounts together on the engine stand & then set the engine in & align/tighten the 3 frame side bolts. If the frame side mounts are already bolted to the frame when dropping the engine in, it's tougher to align the engine w/ the trans as the engine needs to be a bit too high to clear getting over the frame side mounts when sliding it back into the trans.

The key to not getting excess vibration w/ the urethane inserts is simply installing them in the right orientation so the offset strap steel bars imbedded in the urethane interact with the frame side mounts correctly. The imbedded straps fit right only in 1 orientation. Rotate the mount 180 degrees on the x-axis & the straps will bind with the frame side mounts & transmit vibration.

GM has different part #'s specific to the diesel application, so they may well have had different composition mounts. I gather most aftermarket rubber mounts are offered as 1 part #, so probably the same composition mount being used for all the GM 4x4 truck mounts.
