I'm working on the engine for the 93 in my sig. I put dual frost plug heaters in because I wanted a spare when one takes a dump or to heat engine in a hurry. The wimpy oe starter bracket would not clear the plug in on the heater and was way too light to trim enough out for clearance. I fabed a new one out of 1x1x1/4 angle iron with clearance for the heater cord. Pretty simple fix and upgrade. I've had 2 of the oe brackets break. Luckily I cought them before it snapped the block off.

I installed a blockheater there as wel,I just flipped the stock bracket over to clear the plugin.
i drilled the one 6mm hole to 8 mm and filed a wee bit off one end to fit the starter.

I checked mine again today, I knew it had the bracket but I found out that the bolt that connects the bracket to the starter is gone.
It was there when I purchased this, so I'm assuming it wasn't torqued right and came out.

What are the spec.s for the bolt to the starter on this '94?

In the pic.s above, it looks like it might be a stud on the starter with a nut on the outside of the bracket?

Help, please?

Even if the stud broke off you could drill it out and use a nut and bolt. This is about the size that would work 3/8-16 x 1 1/4 inch.

I sure would. If your starter bolts loosen off, and you dog-ear your block, you're FUBAR.

This strikes me as good preventative maintenance.

question here, what are you guys doing when upgrading the starter? I have one truck that had the older style starter from an 86 or so 6.2 and the truck is now a 6.5 conversion and the starter packed it in, replacement is the newer style starter, but the bracket no longer works as the old style starter used one of the bolts to keep the starter together for the bracket to mount too. of course it is now too long etc, so I am contemplating making a new bracket, or cutting the old bracket. the old bracket though mounted to the block higher up with a manifold exhaust shield, and was curved to fit nicely and I am not sure if the angle iron would work in this situation because of the mounting point being so high and at an angle.

I guess I am gonna try and make one tonight or tomorrow, ordering a new one from the stealer would take forever and it seems that guys dont keep the brackets around when they are parting out the trucks.
