Backwards turbo question.

Just thinking about this... what would happen..

What would happen if you had a turbo installed so the engine's intake air stream would spin the turbine, and by spinning the turbo the other end would suck the exhaust out, causing negative pressure or a vacuum to suck out the exhaust gasses :)

Something to ponder!
 
Kind of stupid, but I can't delete it, so Its gonna stay!

There will always be more energy created on the exhaust side of things, so I don't think this could work.

What about supercharger type design?

I'm toying with the thought of zero backpressure/negative backpressure idea.
 
I think it would tend to suck oil out of engine if on exhaust port opening and piston exhaust stroke there was significant vacuum for appreciable amount of stroke. As in why a gasser will tend to burn oil leaking past rings and valve seals on intake more so than a turbo or diesel that does not create that much vacuum.

You are also limited to around atmospheric pressure pulling piston back up vs. being able to make positive pressure where it can go way up in hundreds ??? of psi.
 
Would be cool to find out if it has a positive or negative effect though. The sky is the limit. I plan on putting a duramax turbo on my 6.5 eventually.
 
Modern boiler/steam/turbines electric power generating stations do utilize a system to lower pressure (after the turbine) to much lower than ambient air pressure.

There is a steam condensor section below the turbines. It's essentially a very strongly built heat exchanger utilizing river/lake/or cooling tower water to cool the steam coming out of the turbines. Cooling the steam/condenscing it back to water dramatically lowers pressure as the condenced liquid water takes up far less space than the same amt(mass) of water as steam. This shrinkage results in the condensor section creating a strong vacuum in the condensor (where the turbine steam is exhausted to).

So in essence, this system increases the delta T (temp) & delta P (pressure) across the turbine wheels thus increasing the system's efficiency.

Not necessarily info relevant to our 6.5 turbo's, but does illustrate that all heat engine's theoretical efficiency depends on the high & low temperatures in the system.

but since we're here, why not use a larger intake impeller and housing with a belt drive off the crank pulley; oh, that's a supercharger. Never mind. ;)

Motor mounts
Racor fuel water separator/filter
silicone fuel lines (to the new Racor)
Fuel press. gauge (more silicone fuel lines)
A REAL boost/vacuum gauge (to replace the 45 year old tool I have had baling wired to the steering column)
And something else I can't remember without looking through the boxes or orders. ;)
