If you have AVG Internet Security 8.5 on your system and receive a free offer from AVG to upgrade to their 9.0 version for free DO NOT I Repeat DO NOT upgrade. Thousands of users including myself are experiencing problems while on line after the free upgrade, many are reporting that they are experiencing Sluggish and non response while on line, others are reporting total screen freeze ups or not being able to shut down or turn off their computers.
If you have already made the mistake and upgraded the one thing that seems to help is go to your AVG settings page then to the Overview page then click on Web Shield and disable it, I did it along with many others and it seems to help. Don't bother calling your Internet provider (Which Is How I Found Out) because when I called AT&T the Tech told me they are being swamped with calls from their customers who have AVG on their systems and who just upgraded to 9.0.

wait man - if you do not update who the heck is going to do the beta testing for AVG ???

;-)

next thing you are going to say we shoud all have stayed on XP Pro and not beta tested Vista for Bill.

(damn right we should have not, but there is hardly any hardware supporting XP anymore)

Try running on 98!

feel your pain, got one here at home, one xp, one 98.

The ol 98 is like some ol truck that no one likes to drive, but for some reason, you have to take the ol piece o' crap for a spin every once in a while, just to give it some lovin. :D

The XP replaced the windows 95 computer, but we can't for some reason unplug the ol 98.):h

Upgraded to 9.0 on Dec 1 on all my computers. My 2 laptops immediately went into self destruct mode. Had to boot both in safe mode to be able to uninstall AVG. The HP would blue screen on startup and the Aspire would freeze up. This is a black eye for AVG in my book.

Currently installing Avira on both to see what happens. So far so good.

I'm surprised AVG caused such problems. I have it loaded on 3 laptops - Win 7 Pro, Vista Pro and Vista Home, and two desktops - Win 7 Pro and Vista Ultimate and not a single issue after the AVG update to 9.079.

Hmmm....

I really don't understand it either. My 2 laptops are running faster than ever now. No blue screen or freeeze ups. Just last night my desktop started to really slow down all of a sudden. Didn't want to mess around so I uninstalled AVG on that one too.

Ran full scans with my adware, maleware, antivirus, etc. Didn't pick up anything.

I bought a AVG antivirus software and took it off after a couple of weeks. It turned out to be junk. Been using MSE and have shown no problems or issues.
