For all of you that have an ATT now, can you post a short video of the exhaust sound? I bought an ATT, but I have been sorta busy with "work" and won't be able to get it put on my truck for another couple months. I see a lot of talk in other threads about how much louder the ATT makes the exhaust so I guess I am really curious to hear a couple of them. I saw a couple of TurbineDoc's video's, from inside his cab, and his truck really didn't sound a whole lot different than mine. Thanks in advance fellas.

I don't think it's so much louder as it is "throatier."

Here is a youtube vid of "Big Blue." This seems pretty loud, because the camera microphone is getting "overdriven." Watch and a good idea of the tone is when he moves down to the street.

(Thanks for the vid Big Blue.)

Thanks for putting that up Pat. Biggest issue is camera quality. The "camera" was the web-cam on my laptop, which is what I'm limited too right now since I don't have a real camcorder(one of these days I'll buy one)

Things to consider are this. For one thing both my mother, friends, neighbors and myself noticed, that when I had first installed the ATT, it was slightly quieter than the GM-8. Both where being run as an open down pipe. One friends comment was "it sounded like a Garbage truck pulling into the school before(GM-8 equipped), now it sounds like a Mack truck(ATT)" I also noticed, that without an down pipe at all, that not only does the ATT have a nice whistle, but that its noticably quieter than the GM-8. I believe both of those are due to restrictions in the exhaust. Mainly the Small Downpipe(obviously there isn't anything we can do about that)

I had put together a video from before the end of winter the day before I took the stacks off for the winter, but it seems I lost it and it never made it up on youtube. Once things warm up again and I put the stacks back on I think I'll make another video. The stacks should go nice with the new lift and wheels :D

Is that video with only a downpipe on the turbo and no other exhaust, sounds a lot like mine in the tone, but mine is slightly quieter. I'll see if the digital camera recording captures it good enough.

Unfortunately, the digital camera microphone has some limiting feature on it to prevent db changes from being obnoxious I guess, because it almost mutes when I rev the engine.

I will try and get a video of my truck with the exhaust. I have a Jardine exhaust with a 4 inch straight through muffler, the exhaust exits behind the left rear wheel. My truck is an extended cab long bed and the exhaust is not so loud as to be offensive in the cab.

Lot louder than mine:eek:

It sounds alot better and more "powerful" with the stacks on an the MBRP muffler. It has a really smooth rumble to it, then when you really open things up it has a nice roar):h

Like i said, i'll get a video when I put the stacks back on.

I installed the KD exhaust on the stock gm turbo. Then added the ATT 13 months later. I've been running the ATT for a couple weeks. Note that I have a straight thru muffler and a noise attenuating cat. I don't believe the ATT is louder than the gm turbo with same exhaust arrangement. The most notable difference is that the gm turbo had a very distinct "shhhhh" sound like a high pressure air leak. I assume that is the turbo restriction at play? The ATT does not have that restriction or sound. I would agree with others that the ATT has a more throaty sound. I also agree that this arrangement is not offensive in the cab. So far I haven't tested the neighbors opinion at odd hours, lol. I haven't pulled a load for comparison either. I wasn't looking to alert others of my ride going into this, so that may help you understand my perspective. I would say that I'm ok with the tonal quality and the noise level. If I, personally were to make a change, I might look into a quieter muffler. Problem is, that may very well have a restriction penalty. For now, I'm going to play-on. We'll see what the mileage data shows, and I need more time to see. In summary... the A-Team Turbo rocks!!! I can't wait to get the Suburban project on the highway with the ATT!

What do you mean by noise attenuating cat? Does that just mean you have a cat? Is it the factory type or a high flow type?

When mine had a cat on it, it was still very quiet, almost silent, but I could only get like 6psi boost out of the ATT, and lots of black smoke under load, where the GM4 could get 17psi boost.

Do you have GMTDScanTech, so you can see what kind of fuel rates you have at WOT?

The 3-1/2" pipe goes thru the stock, but gutted cat, and the pipe has all the cross drilled holes per KD instructions.

I am impressed that I have no smoke. Just a very slight puff when you stump on it from a stoplight. I'm not so sure it is any different from stock, never paid so much attention as I do now. It is still a bit cool out, so it's hard to tell with all the water vapor most days. I don't want smoke and that was one of my early concerns. However, the response and launch is very impressive. Boost pressure picks up within a fraction of a second, keeping in mind there has to be some delay in the gauge as it pressurizes that long but small tube all the way up to the a-pillar.

Forgot to mention... I am sure the programming plays a big part in all of this. I ordered a KD chip for this rig but installed the turbo and chip all at once, so I don't have a chip comparison seperate from the ATT. Oh well. I ordered the chip from KD with my preference for fuel economy, smoke control, but also didn't want the egt to go crazy when I do pull loads. Not huge loads either, 4 place open sled, 6x12 enclosed, sometimes bigger enclosed. All cards in, the KD chip and the ATT have acceleration and driveability that greatly surpass the stock stuff. I can say the fuel economy improved a solid 1.5 mpg with the KD exhaust and DSG cam phaser. Again, I need more time to log sufficient data to note the improvement of the KD chip and ATT.

I'm just speculating here (I don't have an ATT...yet). But I would think that if you just installed a brand new turbo (GM-x or ATT) the exhaust is going to be louder until the bushings are 'broken in'....or at least it probably won't have as much whistle until then (especially spooling down).

So, big blue - it should be time for a new video :D
