When I bought this truck (1995 6.5 Sub) it had brand new Michelin cross terrain suv tires all the way around (including the spare). Size 265/75/16. I thought cool thats one expense I don´t have to deal with. The other day I had a flat tire repaired (road metal) and noticed the max load cap. was 2601 lbs. This has to be a C rated tire right? With my vehicle weight of aprx. 6400lbs will these tires be safe? I don´t tow much and rarely have more than the wife, daughter, gear and me onboard.
So what say ye? I am hoping to use them up and then buy some D rated tires later on.

Thanks for any replys g

well, multiply that by 4, and your at 10,404

And for it to be rated at that weight, it can probably handle twice that before it fails.

I wouldn't worry about it unless you start to really tow heavy on that rear axle.

Thanks Matt. Thats what I was thinking but I read alot about people using E rated tires. I guess they are towing alot of heavy loads.

They came from the factory with load range "D" on them. !/2 tons and 2 dr tahoes came with load range "C" i believe. The sticker on the driver's door jamb should say what it should have.

265 x 75 x 16 tires with an E-rating support a max load of 3415 lbs per tire.
D-rating 3000 lbs per tire
C-rating 2470 lbs per tire

You must be somewhere in between a C and D rated tire I would guess. I got the specs from tirerack.

Don't get C, D, E range confused with weight rating. The letter is the ply count or the load range, the load rating is the actual pounds it can hold. That varies by individual tire.

They are probably P265/76/16. Their weight rating is usually between c and d tires.
You only need E rated tires if you are hauling the max gvw. Does the door sticker list 245 or 265? The wider the tire the higher the weight rating.
