Any one ditch there ABS controller? My system has been disabled since I got the truck I'd like to get rid of that stupid box, to have more real estate under the hood for a water to air intercooler, does it control the brake lights? And does anyone know what size lines are on these trucks?

I would not do that and here is why....If the truck is ever involved in a serious accident where someone dies and you physically removed it, your ass could be in a lot of trouble. Just pull the plug like everyone else does and in an accident..oops the crash must have ripped the plug out(If you can't plug it in yourself). I contemplated removing mine but that is why I didn't.

The truck has taken on a strickly dedicated pulling truck role, otherwise I would just ignore it like I have the last 4 years, but otherwise that is a excellent point.

You could defend yourself with the millions of complaints GM has gotten on how the brakes on these year trucks suck:D

If it is pulling, chances are your calipers are stuck. I just replaced both of my front caliper with new pads. Seems to work great now that it works as it supposed to.

no, no I think you misread my post, since I put the cummins in it, its just a pulling truck, not a road driven vehicle anymore.

On my '99 I discovered the ABS disconnected about 5 Montserrat after I bought it. I re-connected and the ABS light came on in the dash. Is it worth trouble shooting? Isn't it the wheel speed sensors that usually go out?

Thanks, Tim with all the wiring going into that thing I wanted to make sure I covered all my bases.

NP since it is a post conversion we are dealing with, I'd have a review of the gnd sticky in the TRL at the top of the forum, and possibly the brake switch itself, or harness all way out the cab, as it could have a broken wire in the loom.

Easiest fix for basically a off road truck that would look red neck, get a set of boat trailer lights from TFS or wally world hooked in to the brake pedal switch and some battery juice, and let er rip, get magnetic ones you could remove them during day light hours and not be so obvious about your status as a bona -fied red neck :D

Multiple possibilities to the why, if you want post about it another thread and we can go down the path of how to TS it, worth the trouble ??? who drives it always somebody that knows how to drive a non ABS vehicle and knows how to not lock up a vehicles brakes ? If you ever have a driver that has not driven without it, I'd say probably repair it, especially considering the top heavy burb body.

Plug an ABS code scanner into it. Most of the time it's the ABS unit which is expensive, a PIA to change and doesn't work worth a spit even when working. JMHO. I disconnect them even if they are "working". It was a very bad system. Many times in the 96 k2500 I drove for work(gasser, patooie!) I hit the brakes and it pulses and no stoppy...

lol, the wheel sensor were rotten thats why the ABS never worked, I've gutted most of the harness and left basically just the wires for the lights, A/C, and gauges, and now I'm in the middle of a complete restoration, the trailer brake lights might not fit in so well, but I like the way your thinkin.

If it is a road vehicle you need the ABS controller for the proportioning valve inside it. Just pull the fuse and rock it that way. After much research of doing the same thing I decided against it just because of potential brake F/R bias issues.

The front brake lines could very well be rusted internally as well! That is what happened on mine. Replace the front hard/soft lines (and check calipers) and I bet it will make a big difference.

... GM really should do a recall on the front hard lines as they are put in a very bad spot that promotes rust. IMO.

GM did announce a brake Line recall in the first half of this year. I posted a link here previously.

Big T, I did some research on that and as far as I could tell NHSA(?) is deliberating the topic, but it is not "official" yet.

The GMC dealer did inform me that if/when the recall comes about I will be reimbursed the cost of the repair. Which is a good thing.

If the status has changed from this spring, I do not know.

THanks!
