I'm looking at possibly selling my 2008 in my sig and buying this. Semi-new truck prices have gone up and it looks like I may be able to sell this 08 for a little more than what I bought it for!! If so I've got my eyes on this 6.5. If there is anyone here who wouldn't mind taking this truck through its paces and taking some engine pics etc for me I'd really appreciate it before driving the 6 hours down there.

I'll sell you my 94. I paid 1700$ for it. may need an IP. Has some blowby. Otherwise seems to be in decent order. every option. A/C not working but should be easy fix. compressor turns.Oh and brakes need to be bled more. It stops but has air in the lines after I replaced a few lines.

No thanks. I don't want another 1500, and I want the newer of the 6.5s. I understand about buying from used car dealers, its just that this truck is truely RARE, and it is really what I want. CCSB leather, with less than 150k? very nice. It has dual exhuast, which I've seen once before on a 6.5 I still have my warpspeed from the last truck so I'll put that on whatever truck I get.

It does look really nice. You can probably start a few grand less than offering anyhow.

Exhaust shops, would have no problem making a dual system. Just branches off underneath to 2 outputs. Obvoiously not a true dual system.

Aces do you have a link to a thread about what happened to the Cummins? I keep hearing you refer to it as a lemon but I've searched and come up with nothing... ???

There was one on this site but it was kinda of a hijack but THIS one is better written.Let's just say I jumped the gun blaming the LP when it was scumbag Lee's Auto ranch IN Ellington CT.

Missy did a nice write on what to look for one these in the stickies. I would print it and take it with me myself because ya always forget stuff.

Yea I have a buddy who's looking at buying a used 6.5, but his range is a little lower than that Crew Cab, and I already called dibbs on that! I'm printing out Missy's write up as we go check out 2 6.5's in the area on Tuesday afternoon.

I know I need to get a 6.5 soon cuz I'm continuously daydreaming about what I want to do to my truck... then I realize that my truck is the stupid CCSB gas truck that everyone and their brother is driving around.

ahhhhh ATT, 4 inch exhaust, Heath GL4, ahhh man!!

Yeah, as much as you think you know, when you are looking at somethig for yourself, judgement goes right out the window. That's how I ended up with "The Lemon".

Yea, I know exactly what you mean. Based on that thread about the CTD, you should be back on track with the Dodge though right?

I know exactly where that is, not too far from me. It's been there quite a while I think, I seem to remember seeing it on Craigslist quite a while ago. It looks pretty sharp but that seems like a little too much money. If it has been there a while I'm sure that would make it easier to negotiate. For some odd reason I seem to think the guy is pretty decent for a used car dealer. Not sure why I remember that, but I think I heard he was not your typical scumbag. If I'm not mistaken he used to have a white truck just like that one that he used to haul cars back from the auction with, had a 2 or 3 car trailer. So he probably knows a little about the 6.5. Anyway, if you still need me to, let me know and I'll go take a look, and get some pictures for you.

North Maine, I went up and checked out the truck for you. I don't know where to begin. It has some cosmetic issues, about what you'd expect for a 10 year old truck. Not totally hammered, but not mint either. It does have a huge dent in the passenger side of the bed, not noticeable in his pics, but it's there. Tailgate is F'ed up, roof has a bunch of patched holes from where someone removed a visor. Dual exhaust is gone, must have rotted off. Just has a new muffler on the old exhaust, with no tailpipe at all. New tires on old aftermarket wheels, offset makes them stick way out in front. Wouldn't pass inspection legally in NH due to tire extension, but he said he'd change them for some shitty wheels and tires on a Suburban. Interior is nice, couple missing knobs and drivers seat is loose, but leather is not ripped like all the other ones. Everything works, 4wd and AC, all windows good. Has an annoying squeak in the steering column but probably easily fixed.
Drove it and was impressed, it handles and rides like a new truck. Pretty powerful, thought it would be slower since everything under the hood is stock. Pulls slightly to the right, also no biggie. New brakes also, stops good.

Now for the bad:
After letting it warm up for ten minutes, then driving it 3-4 miles, noticed a knocking coming from the engine. It is SO hard to diagnose noises from a clattering loud diesel, but it was pretty significant. I thought it sounded more noticeable from the driver side down low and to the rear, can't say for sure it's a rod knock, it could be just a sticky injector. Didn't hear it at all until it was warmed up and driven. He said he knows nothing about any engine noise and it was his daily driver for a while, he also said if you are very interested he would take it to the Sterling dealer to have it checked, but only if you really want it. Don't know what the Sterling dealer is going to know about 6.5s, they are a heavy truck, Sterling, Kenworth and Volvo dealership. He usually warrantees motor and tranny for 3 months but said he won't on this one because it's a diesel.
I didn't come right out and ask, but I got the impression they really believe it is a $10,000 truck, so negotiating the price down might not be easy.
Personally, the suspicious engine noise that might be a rod knock is a dealbreaker. Maybe it's not serious, but my gut tells me it is. I recently had a 350 SBC do the same thing, sounded fine until the oil temp went up and the oil pressure went down, then it had an audible rod knock. If it sounded great and didn't have a bunch of cosmetic problems, it might be worth something, but I think he's maxing out the book value and minimizing everything wrong with it.
Don't think you need to drive six hours to see it, even though it's a pretty nice looking truck.

Well that's too bad, I really like that truck, but I'm glad you were able to take the time and help me out, it is definitely appreciated.
