I've run across a couple (older) references on the web lately to the output shaft snap ring breaking and taking out the transfer case in the 88-2001 trucks.

Personally, I've never seen it happen and this is the first I've heard of it.

Apparently, there's a "fix" for it though:

Anyone running this piece or had a broken snap ring take out a transfer case?

I almost want to pull off the output housing, replace the seal and check the snap ring now......

I know somebody here used one before, but I personally have never seen one break even in teh JEEPS I have wheeled before. So long as teh snap ring is good, I have yet to see one let go. I have seen old snap rings that have been stretched out from being re-used so many times pop off before though.
