In need of the right pully. Aparrently, '94 diesels are the only year that used the alternator as a source for the tach. My alternator was replaced and no one checked the pully, original got turned in for exchange and new one has a much smaller pulley so tach reads way high. Right size is 2 5/8" flange diameter. PM me if you got one you would part with.

ALL of the 6.5 diesels used teh alternator to run the tach. As for where to buy it, I'm not 100% certain. Most any alternator shop I would think would have it or could get it.

I spent two days going from NAPA, Autozone, O'Riley, Car Quest, Pep Boys etc. And 3 different dealers, five wrecking yards. If you go to any of the retail outlets and say "1994 K2500 4x4 with 6.5 turbo diesel alternator" the Alt. they give you has a 2 1/4 to 2 7/16" diameter pulley, supposed to fit any year of the 6.5. Dealer shows a different PN for the '94 diesel than any other year but it is not the first number they find, have to dig. Wrecking yard "interchange" database definitely shows a different alternator for the '94 6.5 diesel, but, no specifics. Only one wrecking yard within 100 miles has a '94 diesel and the alternator was the first item they sold from it.

The aftermarket parts stores are gonna do you no good as has been discovered by many other 6.5ers looking for the correct size alternator pulley. MANY different alternators can be used, but because the 6.5 uses teh alternator stator pulses to drive teh tach, it has to run at the correct speed for the tach to be close. Try this company as they should be able to set you up with the correct pulley. alternatorparts.com

I've got a brand new pulley somewhere around here if I can remember where I put it for safe keeping. I needed one for my pickup for the same reason as you. I don't remember where I got it from. Anyway, wherever I got it from I ended up needing to order two to meet their minimum order requirement. I checked alternatorparts and the one I think you need is part number

"241250 - 6-Groove Pulley, 21mm Belt x 62mm OD x 17mm Bore, Part No. D1-CS130-012"

Check it out and if this is the one PM me and see what we can do.

I've been looking all over for that pulley, can't find it. I put the spare one away somewhere for safekeeping.

Well, it's real safe alright. I can't remember where I put it and haven't been able to find it. You will get a pulley faster by ordering one than waiting for me to figure out what I did with my spare pulley.

Thanks cannon,
Local alternator shop guy says he may have a used one hanging on his wall. I will go in and find out, if not, order one.

that's your oldtimers catching up with you LOL. I misplaced something for a couple of days and thought I put it in a certain spot ( on the floor where I had to almost trip over it) searched for 2 days and when I finally found it it was right where I thought it should have been. thought I was losing my mind

Oldtimers, so true!!! I always use the excuse that I have a brand new memory (it has never been used). I always have a pen/pencil and a small notebook or folded sheet of paper in my pocket so I can write things down that I need to remember. At the shop where I worked, before I had to quit working, it was well known that my memory was in my shirt pocket. My memory does seem to be a bit worse now after all the mega doses of antibiotics I was on after my injury.

Late this spring I went to use the little Stihl chainsaw my dad got for doing tree pruning. A muffler screw came loose and got into the fins on the flywheel and locked it up, breaking a chunk out of one fin.

I took it apart to fix it and this required me to take the handle apart. I left it partially apart waiting to see how much a new flywheel would cost. The cap for the handle holds the trigger in place. Later, I couldn't find the handle cap and figured I must have lost it out of the back of the pickup.

I finally went online and found a used handle cap and ordered it. It came yesterday and I finished putting the saw back together. I went to use the saw today and got out the box that has the screwdrivers, wrenches, files, small grease gun, etc in it. GUESS what I found? Of course, the original handle cap. Grrrr!!!!

I think of it as " sometimers", sometimes I remember and sometimes I don't. My daughter thinks of it a "youngzymers", she goes out to the back yard yelling names until the right one turns around.

BTW, a local electric shop had the right pulley, one of those aftermarket machined ones, he didn't know what it came off of. Got it for $5. Tach is right on per my strobe tach. Diameter where the belt runs is 2.5".

Only problem is that I may have to torque up the drivers side cause of the weight of that pulley!! Must weigh 3-4 pounds. Oh well, at least the tensioner is back in the middle now.
