Hey guys,

I'm thinking when I get back from sea this time I'm going to put a 5 inch system on the truck, and I LOVE the look of the black systems, but the price for the ceramic paint is just too much... would there be any problem just using high quality marine grade black paint on a regular aluminized system? I'm thinking high-heat steam line paint on downpipe and maybe the length after it, and then just good paint on the muffler back... any input?

DownPipe might still get too Hot, but from the Muffler Back, you should be Good with a High Heat Paint.

On my LLY I spray bombed the tail section with high temp black BBQ paint, looked good, until you could see where I didnt paint the rest of the system black. I say paint it all black it'd look great, that paint is rated for 1200* degrees, it should hold up. Mine was still looking good 6 months later when I sold it, I just wish I would of done the whole system. I plan on doing a 5" mbrp full system on this truck and delete the DPF once I get the cash to buy a spare ECM and exhaust, but I'll paint that all black before it goes on the truck.

I painted the cat delete/ front pipe for my Dmax with two coats of flat black BBQ paint because I cheaped out and bought an aluminized pipe. Paint's holding up just fine, even at the dowmpipe where I imagine the highest temps are.

I did mine with three coats of Rustoleum High Temp paint. When I got it, I took it out of the box, wiped it all down with mineral spirits to get the oil off, sanded it all with a palm sander, painted it with one coat, used a brillo pad to scuff it lightly then applied the second coat, and the same for the third. It looks sweet and its holding up like a champ. The paint is a real matte deep black, it looks good.
