Our IT dept has the thing set to time out every 20 min and it's mildly annoying to have to put in an 8 digit alphanumeric password every time I pick it up.

Under Options-> Security Options-> General Settings the security timeout is set for 20 min and I can't change it... has a red padlock looking icon next to it (to obviously keep me from changing it). If anyone knows how to get around this, I'd greatly appreciate it.

I've heard the same complaint at other customer sites. I was at British Aerospace 3 weeks ago and their IT Security group changed the password on some of the BB's but nobody new what they changed the password too.

My company does the same thing but it only takes 10 minutes. So needless to say every time I walk by the thing I bump the mouse to start the 10 minutes over. I will be watching this one for sure.

Mine is set to 20 or 30 min also. I dont use mine enough to worry about it right now. I checked with the girl that sets ours up before we get them and she wasnt sure how to do it either.

That security setting is applied through an IT Policy that is configured on the Blackberry Server. Unfortunately, all Blackberries need to have an IT policy assigned in order to communicate with their respective server. Unfortunately, there's not really a way to "hack" the blackberry, unless its wiped of all data (which would render it useless) until its re-activated which will re-assign that IT policy again. See where I am headed? lol

SO your most likely stuck with it unless you can sweet talk your IT department into altering the IT policy... :hail:
I do agree that 10 minutes seems a little outrageous, but it all comes down to security and protecting their IP.
Blackberries have the capability of accessing just as much information as a regular computer, so you can imagine if that thing gets into the wrong hands...

Good luck....

Thanks, that's kind of what I figured. I'm also good at wiping it and having it re-activated since they only allow you 2 tries to enter the correct password. Doh.
