Currently I have the black textured fender flares and body moulding on my truck. I want painted ones to match instead. I think it looks better.

Now I've been told I can saind, prime and paint the ones i have now. It takes some work but I can do it. I'm having trouble deciding if its worth my time to work on the ones i have now and paint them or just find some paintable ones and go that route.

Opinions?

I'm not much of an autobody man but I do know they make some flexible primer and such just for things like that

My friend did this on his Cummins. He bought the bushwacker flares and sanded them down (can't remember what grit #) and then bought the Krylon Paint at Wal-Mart, 2 coats later and it looks great actually. Glossy and you honestly can't tell it's spray paint.

I'd find a decent body guy in your area and ask him what he would do, and use. Stuff like that I generally mess up, and my body guy has been good on both my Bonneville and the truck, so I leave that stuff to him. Support local businesses.

I would start with some 180 or 220 grit paper to sand down the texture, be careful not to get too excited and sand the contour out of the plastic. Then I would sand it smooth with some 500, prime it, and sand it wet with 500 very lightly (just to take care of any blemishes or texture in the primer), then paint it with your paint of choice!

I am not a big fan of the rattle can option, but if you do go that way try some of the Krylon clear also.

Krylon Fusion for plastics has held up extremely well on my lower air valance... The plastic has been smashed and shattered a few times and the paint has held up with no chipping, cracking etc.

Yea, I believe thats what he used on his Fender Flares.

If you're ever back in town I know Seif would do it and a good job but idk how much. You might be able to get all that Linex done for not much more though.
