Howdy all,

again, another stalling, and more and more often "no start" truck.

It startd with what seems to be a PMD issue : stalling more and more often and finally no start. No codes.

We change and relocate PMD, and she went back on the road.... for less 2 weeks, then stall again.

We check the lift pump, OPS, all OK.

We succeed starting her and have her running, but today, no start again.

The guy told me they hook a code reader and found a code about "solenoid time response too long"

Anybody knows what that means, what can cause this code ?

Two things I must add :
  • the PMD is not new. It comes from another truck on which it was causing no problem. Being short of PMD at the moment, I can't swap to another one, but will do ASAP.
  • We put a reflashed PCM on this truck. At each restart, we remarked that the truck is stumbling, running rough, and then suddenly goes fine.
We put back stock PCM, and no change : stumbling, rough idle and then OK, same as if you're processing a koko routine. This happens especially when cold.

Though, could it be the IP itself ?

Check the simple things. Fuel tank sock? My 94 was junked up and caused simular problems. Blow out the lines, filter?. Grounds on PS intake. Your PMD went out last week.
Thanks.

prob still PMD. I had 2 brandnew PMD's crap out a month apart last yr spring (stanadyne black)

run some 2 stroke in the fuel, might solve a sticky FS

What year truck is this?

The DTC36 for OBDI is pulse width too long, which means the closure time is too long, which is the value you can see on a scanner. The closure time should be about 1.6ms on the scanner. Same for OBDII code for same thing.

I agree with the simple things, check tank supply, make sure there arent rusted through lines on top of the fuel tank sucking in air. Or a filter not clocked and set down correctly sucking air.

Typically would get some sympathy codes with air, the pulse width is one of them, but also some timing reference codes etc...

Unplug the OS and see if things improve.

Anytime you swap a PCM you need to perform a TDCO relearn. Should see what scanner says it is now and run the koko and see if it changes.

Ignition switch is one to cause stalling if power to PCM/PMD/FSO solenoid are all intermittent, but shouldnt cause sputtering.

Need more details, like bulb checks, when it wont start is SES and GP lights coming on with ignition? When it wont start is it cranking easy, chugging, trying to fire, any smoke and what color out the tailpipe?
