Hi All,

On your first change, have you stuck to what the manufacturer recommends, or have you gone a different path?

Example, you want to go syn, and the MFG calls for 10w30 CJ4 dino, but you want to run syn, and the only option is 5w40 (any flavour.)

What did you do??

I started out with the Rotella T 15W-40 for the first 20K or so, went on to the Rotella Syntheitc blend 5W-40, Mobil 1 TD, Back to the Rotella 15W-40 for 10K, and now have decided to stay with the Mobil 1 TD 5W-40 and extend the change intervals to 7K. Many will say this is changing the oil too early and they have a valid point to a degree. While the oil is stil doing it job, it has a lot of soot in it and you end up seeing this thorough the exhaust. I would rather put out a cleaner exhaust and change the oil a little early to avoid it.

15W40 Rotella from day 1. LLY and LBZ. Wife's prior Tahoes I stayed with Mfg recommended. The '07 I went to M1 syn at 25-30k.

All things being equal, synthetics will always be better then conventional. However, if the truck was still under warranty, I would stick to what they recommend, then change later.

Same here (LB7), except for ONCE when I used 2 quarts of Rotella 5w-40 syn with 8 quarts of dino....):h

My wife's '04 Suburban 2500 5w-30 (as per Manufacturer) Valvoline Durablend.

Recently switched to the 5W40 ROTELLS synthetic and couldn't be happier. I had to use smaller group 75 batteries in the swap, and below 50 degrees outside on a cold start it wouldn't spin over the quickest. The synthetic took care of it and it spins over great now.

My first question is what vehicle is this for? You can't get 10W-30 in synthetic? I find that VERY hard to believe. In our Duramax we ran Delvac Synthetic until 53k, when I switched it to Amsoil.

MF 1635. I was recently told that if it does NOT have a DPF, do NOT run CJ4, NO ONE makes a 10w30 CJ4 oil.even though it is Tier IV interim. Was also told to wait until around 100 hours to put in syn, for wear in reasons.

Can run Amsoil 10w30/30 CI.

If you have a DPF, you need to run CJ-4. If you don't, you can but there are better solutions.

Synthetic 10W-30/SAE 30
Heavy Duty Diesel Oil (ACD)
will work fine.

Same here.

Yea what they said and my truck does not use any oil between changes. I think for the money its hard to beat Shell Rotella 15W-40, but thats just my 2 cents. If anyone wants to use two ball root oil in their truck then thats their choice, its America and at this moment we can choose the products we want to use.
