Haven't lost complete hope, but I thought I'd post this just for anyone looking. I'll delete it if I change my mind...

My truck: 1996 Chevy K2500 silverado, power everything, 2 door ext. cab, LB, 4x4, 5 sp (NV4500), 6.5L "F" turbo diesel, 203k miles

Looking for best offer. Don't NEED to sell it, but would/am considering it. I've spent a lot of time and money in this truck, so I should keep it, but I'm also interested in finding something with a solid front axle and a bit more clearance...

Brand new batteries
Custom 5" Straight Pipe after downpipe
Hideaway gooseneck hitch
Rear bumper hitch
Pyro Gauge
Boost Gauge
Custom front hitch with fog light mounts
DIY wastegate
A/C delete
PMD relocated to front bumper w/ heat sink
Air Filter modded after the '97
South Bend Clutch (not even a thousand miles with it)
FTB mod,
FFM relocated to side of intake
High-flow crossover
High Idle switch
(will include fuel gauge - inline part already installed)

Will need tires. Still some tread, but not much. I have 1 brand new tire (revo retread with sticker still on it), but didn't want to replace the tires till I fixed the truck.

Ball Joints replaces 50k miles ago, wheel bearings replaced ~20k miles ago, used injectors were tested and set by MDI in crown point & glow plugs replaced ~20k miles ago

Reason I'm considering on selling it is because I'm tired of working on it. Currently has a leak in the fuel filter manager, and the motor shuts off randomly. It has good fuel flow, so could be PMD or could be the injection pump...or... I don't need to sell it, nor have I given up all hope, but thought I'd see if anyone would be interested.

I found most/all my mods on www.thetruckstop.us .

I may be interested in a ford or dodge 90's or newer truck, with manual transmission, 4x4, diesel with a solid front axle. (Size cab can be extended or standard, and bed can be flat or standard) Wanting a running work truck that I can get firewood, and haul/pull stuff with. I know, a lot to ask for with a currently non-running truck, but like I said, I don't NEED to sell the truck, just checking really. And if I could find a loan, I'd do a partial trade. Could be nothing at all, but won't know till I start crossing things off. Fuel is getting to the fuel filter housing. And supper was cooking, so I didn't get to investigate further than that.

No low balling - its not scrap. And I'm not interested in parting out.

Truck is running now. I plugged into the stock PMD that is still mounted to the IP and it started right up. I plan on purchasing a new PMD for the one in the bumper and plug the extension back in. FTB modded FFM is still leaking, so I'm going to plug the stock FFM in and see if that fixes the leaking problem.

Where is it leaking from?

If you have the stanadyne filter with the steel top, you have to get the o ring and steel backup ring installed correctly or it will leak.

The plastic top "fram" style filters have a few reports of leaks coming in lately.

It kind of appears to be from the top portion, and at first I tried a Wix with the plastic top, but then switched to an autozone w/ the factory plastic ring. The stock FFM didn't have a steel backup ring or o-ring and it never leaked...that I knew of, haha. But this FFM that I did the FTB mod to looks exactly like my original, and that's why its confusing the heck out of me. :( Does the stealership sell the metal ring and o-ring?

Someone probably tossed it in the past. My replacement stanadyne filter came with new ring and backup. The o-ring and back up are also shaped and need to be installed in the correct orientation to seal properly.

Here's some pics of it:

If you look closely at the last one, you can see how the backup ring will force the o-ring to seal when you tighten down the filter top.

Your truck is exactly what i wish my truck was, minus the OBD-2 part. If yours was a 95 i would love it. Hope you can get the leak figured out, seems like the hard parts are done.

Is the truck sinking in the one pic? lol

Yea, I found a soft spot beside my garage. Took a neighbor's skid steer to pull me out, but I'm sure a hoist or winch would've worked too.

Great white: do you know the part number for those things? I checked the part number list and didn't see it, and when I clled my local standadyne dealer they requested a part number.

Nope.

Like I said, it came with my replacement filter.

I was savvy enough to save my old ones though.................;)

Newly relocated with new grey PMD w/ 2 yr warranty. Sitting against the driver's side fender well now vs. the front bumper where it was. My other relocated PMD was the black one.

Still leaking fuel from the top of the FFM, even with the Standadyne fuel filter with the rings. All that time I thought we were talking about rings that came separate, but as it stands, the autozone fuel filter comes with the same rings...I believe (also, I've never had any problems with them before either). I'm going to put the original FFM in and see if that works.

Is $4k asking too much? Still considering it. Or trade for 91.5-93 12 vlv or a 1 ton standard cab chevy or ford. (w/ at minimum: 4x4, manual transmission, turbo diesel)

I killed some PMDs in the stock location, went to the drivers fenderwell and it slowed down but still killed a couple. Finaly moved to inside the front bumper, mounted so the airflow hit the back of the cooler but the PMD was pretty well protected. Lasted for years that way, probably still going somewhere. I say this just to point out that I think you're going backwards by moving it back under the hood.

I miss my 97 something awful, and I would definitely like to get another one. I don't want another dually, and I would love to find a 5 speed. I do think $4k is pretty high for the age and miles, but I also understand that it's a somewhat rare truck. I would probably stretch to pay that, if the body was really good. But of course, I can't because you had to decide to live halfway around the world from me.

Good to know DetroitDan - will move it back to the front bumper. And fuel leak fixed - just had to tighten the cap with a wrench...

I had the mods move this to here because of my fuel leak problem & conclusion to it. I'm not actively putting my truck out there to sell, but as with most material possessions, most anything is always for sale for the right price. In the mean time, I'm driving it.

Crash2win64 - live in northwest Indiana, maybe a 45 min drive to Joliet or so. Could meet in Joliet or frankfort if you were seriously interested.

I broke down and took the truck to a diesel shop. I know one of the mechanics from Bible study and he seemed quite knowledgable about the 6.5. They did a once over on the truck, advanced the fuel pump timing a degree or 2 (I think just a degree - it was behind by 2-3, so hopefully fuel mileage improves?). Timing chain seemed fine. They replaced the heater switch resistor (behind glove box, on top of duct), replaced the steering dampener shock, and some other misc things. As soon as I get the driver's door handle installed (broke the minute I sold my jeep), and 2 more new tires installed, I'll be ready for the drive out to North Dakota. By the way, check out 1aauto.com when you get a chance. They don't sell diesel parts...that I know of, but I got a pair of door handles for $45, and they have a detailed video on how to replace the parts they sell.
